The Sarawak Cultural Village, in Santubong, known all over the world for hosting the much loved Rainforest Music Festival series, is all set to host the opening ceremony and welcoming dinner of another international level event - the prestigious Asean International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA) 2013 as well as the much anticipated "Movies In The Rainforest" marathon film viewing session, which are both part of the three day long festival activities that will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, from 28th March to 30th March 2013. The festival which is being organised by World Comm, and endorsed by the Ministry Of Tourism Sarawak, with the full support of the Ministry of Information, Communications & Culture Malaysia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat) and the Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), will see filmmakers from all over ASEAN, Bollywood and Hollywood, congregating in the state, to showcase and share their passion with other film lovers in the region.
The highlight of the event will be of course its "Black & White" themed Gala Awards Night on 30th March, 2013, which will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, in honour of the participating filmmakers. Apart from the core highlights, the event will also include a string of activities that will enable local and visiting film buffs to learn and appreciate the art of filmmaking through participation and interaction with the various filmmakers who are expected to be the who's who in the industry.
Apart from giving recognition to the visiting filmmakers for their efforts, AIFFA 2013 which was initiated in May 2012, is aimed at promoting Sarawak's tourism industry, by creating an avenue for all ASEAN filmmakers and their Hollywood & Bollywood counterparts to meet and network, while considering the state as a unique destination for their location shoots.
All this was expressed to the members of the press at a media launch which was held on 28th December 2012, at the Bunga Emas Malay Restaurant, at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, by AIFFA 2013 festival director Livan Tajang. The well attended event was officiated by the Deputy Minister for Information, Communications & Culture, Dato' Joseph Salang Anak Gandum, and graced by the Director of FINAS, Raja Rozaimie Raja Dalnish Shah and Sarawak Tourism Ministry's Permanent Secretary Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik. Among the attending celebrities who came to support the launch of AIFFA 2013, were Sofea Jane, Vanidah Imran, Radhi Khalid, Rashidi Ishak and Seniman President Zed Zaidi.
