Konsert Lagendary, helmed by four home-grown Superstars, was definitely a night to remember! Jamal Abdillah, Datuk Sheila Majid, Zainal Abidin and Amy took us through their musical journey of evergreen hits that brought back fond memories with flawless performances and accompanied by the best band in the country, who could ask for more. The foursome showed us that they are still a force to be reckoned with and age was just a number. Leading the band was the three music directors namely, Mac Chew, Jenny Chin and Acis, who made every note sounded perfect and everything blended in beautifully.
The first to take the stage was Jamal who impressed us with his vocal prowess when he performed his hits songs like “Azura”, “Gadis Melayu”, “Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir”, “Seniman”, including his new song “Aku Maafkan Kamu”, a song he collaborated with local rapper, Malique. A man with few words but not needing to say much as he has put us in awe with his flawless performance.
Next up was our classy Jazz Queen, Datuk Sheila Majid, who looked resplendent in a sparkling gold coloured gown. She took the stage and performed her first number “Warna”, which she dedicated to all her fans “I want to dedicate this song to all of you, the colours of our friendship”. Before performing her next number, she said “I can’t talk too much as I went past my time during rehersals so I better sing more”, with that she launched into another favourite hit “Emosi”. Next, Sheila gave a heartfelt rendition of “Ku Mohon” a beautiful song composed by Mac Chew and lyrics by herself. “This is one of my favourite song, written by Mac Chew”. She said that it was good to team up with Mac after a long time and joked that Mac deserted her for some young Chinese star in China.
Sheila then had her music director, Mac to play the guitar while her husband, Acis took on the keyboard. “This is something you will never see, Mac playing the guitar! This is “Dengarkanlah”, a song composed by Acis”. Of course it will not be a Sheila Majid show without the golden oldies of Tan Sri P.Ramlee, like “Bunyi Guitar’ and “Bila Larut Malam”, which got everyone grooving to the beat. The Jazz Queen went on to perform her popular hits like “Aku Cinta Padamu”, “Lagenda”, “Antara Anyir Dan Jakarta” and last but not least, her signature song “Sinaran”, which got everyone up from their seats swaying away to the familiar tune.
The next legend who took the stage blew us away not only with his singing but also with his humour and wit. Zainal had fantastic rapport with the audience and got them in stitches with his jokes and also his antics in introducing the band members. “Tonight is a very happy night as we are here in a very historic place. I performed here for a show in 1993 before a crowd of 45,000. He joked “You know, to be able to perform on this Legendary stage, you must be married twice!” and with that, he started his segment singing all our favourites like “Suraya”, “Kau Di hatiku” (The malay version of You’ll Be In My Heart, the OST from the movie, Tarzan), “Manis”, “Orak Arek” and his signature song “Hijau”. He also performed two of his new songs, “Kamu” and “Alam”, both written by Ajai.
The final performer for the night was none other than our rock legend, Amy, with his trademark word “Pheewitt’ he started his segment. He mesmerized the audience as he took them down memory lane with his popular hit songs like “Tiada Lagi”, “Gadisku”, “Pawana”, “Kerja Gila”, and “Isi Dan Kulit”. Amy closed the show with his ever popular signature hit “Isabella”, joined by Jamal and Zainal. They gave a superb performance and their voices blended in perfectly. Last but not least, Sheila came back on stage to join them and all of them sang “Iklas Tapi Jauh”. What a prefect finale to a great concert and to top it up, the dark skies was lighted up with a beautiful display of fireworks.
