It seems that there is nothing that mega talented London born television, film and stage star, Stephen Rahman-Hughes, who is of Welsh and Malay parentage, cannot do. Looking at his extensive resume, he has pretty much done it all, from dancing to being a multi award winning choreographer, as well as taking on West End musicals as a stage actor, playing principal roles in television while landing international film leads along the way, to singing as part of theatre land's gold selling supergroup Teatro. Without missing a beat, the dashing celebrity who played the legendary Hang Tuah in Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical, and the film lead in Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa (The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines), has once again embarked on getting closer to his Malaysian roots by releasing a complete Malay pop album, despite not being a native Malay speaker.
The self titled release which was officially launched this afternoon at a press conference held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Kuala Lumpur, features 8 Malay tracks that are made up of power ballads, pop rock numbers and alternative rock tracks, which were contributed by award winning local composers such as Azlan Abu Hassan, Audi Mok and Kevin Chin with lyrics by Tinta and Sharom Rashid. Also in the album are two contributions from from renowned Indonesian composers Irwan Simajuntak and Andre Dinuth. Sharing singing credits with Stephen is vocal heavyweight Jaclyn Victor on "Hati Berbisik", the only collaborative number in the album, which has already been released to the market since 6th January 2011. The Azlan Abu Hassan/Tinta penned "Bertemu Di Syurga" which initially debuted at the West End Stars concert at Istana Budaya last April, is the first single from the album.
