Come and watch them cheer
FANS of Soo Kui Jien will be happy to note that the talented lad has agreed to host Cheer 2007 grand championship, making this the sixth year he has undertaken the fun-filled responsibility.
¡°I feel very privileged to be given the honour once again,¡± said Jien, an ESPN Star Sports host.
He is looking forward to seeing more stunts, tumbles and rumbles.
Co-hosting with Jien is Channel [V] VJ Sarah Tan. This is her first time hosting a Cheer event. ¡°I¡¯ve heard that it¡¯s a whole lot of fun just being there, watching the cheerleaders flip and jump,¡± said Sarah (pic).
¡°I have hosted many events but I¡¯m sure Cheer 2007 is going to beat all of them, in terms of spirit and fun.¡±
The hosts urge people to come and support the cheerleaders and be part of this exciting experience.
¡°Be prepared for a high-intensity competition. You get to see the nation¡¯s best cheerleaders come out to play and, trust me, you wouldn¡¯t want to miss it,¡± said Sarah.

Point Blanc to perform
VISITORS to Cheer 2007 will get their fair share of hip hop action with a special appearance from local artiste Point Blanc.
¡°I¡¯m really excited to be part of the Cheer family again,¡± the 28-year-old rapper said. This will be the second time Point is performing for the Cheer crowd, and his first as a solo artiste. He first rocked the stadium with popular hip hop group Poetic Ammo at Cheer 2000.
¡°It was a really fun experience back then and I¡¯m sure it¡¯ll be just as fun, if not more, this year,¡± he said.
The rapper expects more intense performances from the cheerleaders because he believes that after seven years, the cheerleaders would¡¯ve learned some pretty difficult moves by now.
¡°I¡¯m really looking forward to performing in front of a screaming crowd that¡¯s there to have good, clean fun.¡± Expect Point to perform his hit songs So Fly and Ipoh Mali from his upcoming album, on Sunday.
Point¡¯s debut solo album titled Straight to the Point is set to hit the local music stores on June 26.

Extract From Star Online: The judges are ...
By SHARMILA NAIR
JUDGING Cheer 2007 will be a difficult task. That¡¯s why we have these professionals to help pick the winners. Here¡¯s the list of judges the cheerleaders have to impress during the two-day national championship, if they want to emerge victorious.
Samantha Paige Gorman
Samantha has been a cheerleader for almost 14 years and has been a certified coach with the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) for the past five years. She is also the daughter of chief judge, Anne Marie Gorman. She was thoroughly impressed by the performance given at the regional competitions and knows that the best is yet to come.
¡°I¡¯m looking forward to seeing the performances at the finals because I know that after the clinics, they would¡¯ve improved so much more,¡± said Samantha.
Judging the cheerleading teams are: (from left) Jeni Scherer, Samantha Paige Gorman, Anne Marie Gorman, Samantha Callan and Jill Spearman. Samantha is in charge of judging the cheerleaders on their stunts during the competition. She will give points based on sturdiness, creativity and execution, apart from other criteria.
Samantha Callan
Callan is the youngest of the judges. Having been a cheerleader for almost five years now, she was impressed by the performances she has seen so far.
¡°Given that they¡¯ve only been in cheerleading for a short time, it is amazing to see how far they¡¯ve come,¡± said Callan, who is looking forward to seeing more creative movements from the participants.
Jill Spearman
Spearman is the NCSSE Ohio state director and has been involved in cheerleading for almost 30 years. She is impressed to see the spirit exuded by the cheerleaders she met at the regionals and expects more energy at the final competition.
She will be judging the teams on their cheers and chants, making sure that they¡¯re spoken from the diaphragm and not screamed out. But most importantly, she expects to see the teams have fun during the competitions.
¡°Show us how hard you¡¯ve worked all year and show us your spirit,¡± said Spearman.
Jeni Jo Scherer
Scherer has been involved in cheerleading for almost 20 years and is currently NCSSE Washington DC state director. She will be judging the cheerleaders on all technical aspects.
On working with the cheerleaders at the Northern regional clinic, she was happy to note that the participants took the coaching session seriously and picked up important tips and suggestions.
¡°It was nice to see that they listened to us and worked hard to improve their routines,¡± said Scherer.
She hopes that the participants of the Central clinics, too, will heed the advice given and practise harder before the final competition.
Anne Marie Gorman
If you¡¯ve been following Cheer, you will remember that Anne Marie was also on the Cheer 2006 judging panel. This year, the NCSSE Virginia state director is looking forward to seeing the cheerleaders practise safe moves and follow the rules of the competition.
¡°I¡¯m really anxious to see the degree of improvement in stunting and motion techniques among the teams and see if the senior cheerleaders remember what we taught them last year,¡± said Anne Marie.
She also wants to see if the newcomers have paid attention to how the teams performed last year and picked up the proper way to execute stunts.
Anne Marie will be judging the teams on their stunt executions, whether they are safe and abide by the rules set by the judges.
Yannus Sufandi
Yannus Sufandi, of So You Think You Can Dancefame, will judge the teams on their dance choreography.
Reality show So You Think You Can Dance choreographer and judge Sufandi is looking forward to the performances this weekend.
¡°I hope that judging a cheerleading competition will be the same as judging a dance competition,¡± said Sufandi, who will be looking out for teamwork among the squad members on that day.
During the performances, he will judge the teams by considering their individual skills as well as how they work in a team. Sufandi feels that synchronisation is important in any type of dance or else the whole routine will look messy.
¡°The dance segment is important in a cheerleading routine because it helps to wow the crowd,¡± he said.
Manuela Oliveira
Oliveira is also a choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance and is a trained dancer herself. She¡¯s excited to be part of Cheer 2007 and is looking forward to being there as she hasn¡¯t been to any cheerleading competitions in Malaysia before.
¡°I¡¯m sure there¡¯ll be many talented youngsters out there,¡± said Manuela, who expects to see lots of talented and passionate performers there.
She believes that dancing is important in a cheerleading routine as it improves the performance.
¡°It will train you musically and teach ways to execute movements at a greater level. Dancing makes you more versatile as a performer,¡± said Manuela.

Yes BB, I was covering the event for Rentak and will be posting the pics shortly.
The event was a blast and the atmosphere was phenomenal. This year won by the Dynamitez, their supporters were just as brilliant too. Loved their Dynamite mascot too.
Good showing by all.
