Nineteen new shows were revealed to the members of the media, at a press launch which was officially kicked off by the Honorable Minister for Information, Communications & Culture, YB Dato’ Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim, yesterday morning at Istana Budaya, who continuously stressed the importance of showing steely appreciation, to the dedicated and committed practitioners, and propagators of the arts. "When we clap, let it not be feeble, let it be rousing." the minister emphasized, during his engaging twenty minute long speech that had everyone all ears.
Among the exciting new line up for the year ahead was the announcement of Malaysia's most favourite animated characters Upin & Ipin appearing in their very own live action musical theatre, which will see the two lead characters played in the flesh instead of in animated costumes. Also highly anticipated is the musical theatre on the life of our former premier's wife - Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, in conjunction with mother's day celebrations in May 2012. The year will also see the return of Tall Order's Cuci The Musical and Enfinity's P.Ramlee The Musical, and the debut of The Kitchen Musical which is adapted from the popular regional TV series of the same title. Concert lovers, will be happy to note, that apart from iconic rock legends Ella & Awie and the veteran stars from "Konsert Pop Yeh Yeh 60an" who will all be taking centre stage at Istana Budaya next month, the legendary Datuk DJ Dave will be staging his very own concert in June, making himself the second non Malay solo artiste to do so.
