1. What is Showdown 2012?
Showdown 2012 is a one-of-a-kind reality dance crew show that's taking it from the streets!
Expect to be wowed by street dance in Malaysia. SHOWDOWN 2012 takes you on a raw behind-the-scenes experience where the REAL dance action happens. Exciting hip-hop and fusion dance styles come together to battle it out along with professional training and tricky challenges all thrown into the mix. The street is where the underdogs and hot faves both have an equal shot at winning...

3. Who is Showdown 2012 looking for?
Showdown 2012 is looking for THE Malaysian dance crew with versatility, originality, drive, the skills and the dream to make it to the international stage!
4. What is the winning prize?
The winning crew will walk away with RM50,000 and a chance to go international.
5. Who are the host and judges of Showdown 2012?
Showdown 2012 is hosted by Hafiz Hatim of Fly FM. The judges are rapper & music producer Joe Flizzow; and veteran dancer and choreographer, Maple Loo.
6. Who can enter Showdown 2012?
Showdown 2012 is only open to Malaysian residents. Any dance crew – regardless of the style and genre - consisting of (min) 4 to (max) 7 members, may enter Showdown 2012.
Past contestant participation:
With the exception of the Top4 finalist, all SD2011 crews are allowed to join SD2012.
With the exception of the Top3 finalist, all SD2010 crews are allowed to join SD2012.
However, members of the Top3 may join the competition as new crews with a maximum number of 2 existing members from their original crews.
7. Where can I enter?
Online Auditions
Crews can Audition by submitting their videos Online at www.8tv.com.my/showdown. Crews stand a chance to go to the Battles by auditioning online. Within the Online Auditions Period only – 1/11/11 – 21/11/11
Onground Auditions
- Sabah – 26th November 2011 (La’Tango Dance Club)
- Sarawak – 27th November 2011(Feasible Dance Studio)
- Kuala Lumpur Auditions – 18th December 2011
- The Battles – 19th December 2011
8. What do I have to prepare before I audition?
Please prepare 2 songs (about 1:30 – 2:00 each) in a CD. Your crew will be required to perform a choreographed or freestyle routine in front of the judges (it’s entirely up to you how you want to impress them). Don’t forget – what you wear will also matter to the judges!
Please also bring 2 4R-size (recent) photographs of each member of your crew; including yourself of course.
9. I am not Malaysian. What are my options?
Showdown 2012 is only open to Malaysian citizens and permanent residents, but if you and your crew would like a few minutes on our stage just to show off your skills to the judges and set the bar for the contestants, we dare you!
10. Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit to enter Showdown 2012. Applicants aged under 18 will however need to have parental consent. Please have your parent or guardian sign the form. The same form will be also provided at the registration table or online.
11. What are the contest stages of Showdown 2012?
Online Auditions will be held via www.8tv.com.my/showdown and On Ground Auditions will be held at Sabah, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.The Battles stage will be held in Kuala Lumpur only. If your dance crew’s audition is successful, you will have to compete against another successful crew at the Battles Stage. Successful crews from the Battles stage will train at the Meltdown and LIVE shows in Kuala Lumpur, where some crews will be eliminated at each episode subsequently, until the finals – The Final Showdown.
12. When and where do the Battles take place?
The Battles will take place on the 19th of December 2011(Monday) in Kuala Lumpur, from 3pm onwards at the same venue.
13. My crew made it to the LIVE show stage. How long will I have to commit to the competition?
You and your crew will have to be prepared to commit to Showdown 2012 throughout the duration of the live shows, at least 4 days a week (Monday-Wednesday & Saturdays) from April till July 2012, in Kuala Lumpur. For specific commitment dates, please refer to the commitment dates posted up at the Audition/Battles venues.
14. What about our accommodation, food & transportation during the LIVE show stages?
Showdown 2012 is also a reality TV show, therefore all crews who have made it to the LIVE show stage will also be required to be under Showdown 2012’s care and supervision. Accommodation & Transportation (for Outstation crews ONLY) and meal allowances related to the competition will be provided.
15. I am under 18, and my crew has made it to the LIVE show, but my parents are not happy about me being away from home.
Each contestant under the age of 18 is allowed ONE guardian to accompany him or her throughout his or her stay with Showdown 2012.
16. What happens during the LIVE show stage?
In general, for each week your crew remains in the competition, you will be required to make (one or more) performances on LIVE television. Further details on the mechanics and the kinds of challenges will be revealed to you and your crew once you’ve made it past the Meltdown stage.
17. Will my crew have to figure out our own choreography, music mix & outfits at the LIVE show all on our own?
Showdown 2012 will provide the music and stylists for you to work with. Choreography will have to be conceptualized by each crew on your own. Your contribution alone will be judged at the end of the day. Subject to change without prior notice.
18. What if I get injured during the LIVE show – are you going to pay for my medical bills?
Medical treatments for Showdown 2012 LIVE show contestants will be insured by 8TV only if hospitalization is required.
19. When does Showdown 2012 air on 8TV?
Episodes will be aired on 8TV on every Wednesday, from 4th April 2012 till 4th July 2012 at 9:30pm. (Subject to change)
20. One more thing – why am I being followed all the time?
Showdown 2012 is a dance crew competition as much as it is a reality TV show. As a contestant, you will be required to work closely and cooperatively with the production crew, as they will be your main connection to your fans and the audience. That includes getting used to having a camera follow you around, and having to speak to it often!
