Youths for YOUnity
YOUnity Malaysia, a one-of- a-kind youth organization that promotes unity amongst youth via attractive activities, is organising and hosting a one day street festival to foster unity among the youths in the nation, with the endorsement and support of the Department Of Unity & Integration (Prime Minister's Department), and various other governmental agencies that include the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ministry Of Tourism, KL City Hall, Department of Youth & Sports (Federal Territory) and the Federal Territory Youth Council.
The multi arts KL YOUnity Street Fest 2011 will be held this Saturday, 25th June, 2011, in front of Sungei Wang Plaza, in Bukit Bintang and is expected to draw up to a one hundred thousand visitors throughout the day. Themed "It's A Youth Festival For Unity", the inaugural event will be the first ever youth festival to be held on the street in Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle area and popular tourist destination, and will feature various activities designed to engage the youth of today, such as street fashion, street dance, street performances, and education through entertainment, which is part of their F.A.M.E intiiative which stands for Fashion, Arts, Music & Edutainment.
This was announced at a press conference which was chaired by YOUnity Malaysia's President Asrul Sani, and attended by Mr Gandesan Letchumanan, Deputy Director (Ops), Department Of Unity & Integration, En Faizal Shamsuddin, representing the Federal Territory Youth Council, featured artistes, invited guests and members of the media, at Switchblade Kuala Lumpur in Solaris Dutamas, yesterday afternoon.
Highlights of the festival will be the YOUnity Showcase featuring over 10 popular local indie stars, Faces of YOUnity Wall of Fame, a Skateboard Competition, Graffiti Arts, DJ Spin With Style, Cheerleading, Creative Arts Retrospective, Pentas Aksi (presenting I'm Singles with more indie bands), Street Wear Fashion Show, a street bazaar with 72 booths, and street dance performances. Among the top music acts scheduled to rock the event are Pesawat, Deja Voodoo Spells, Couple, Altimet, Tilu, Incarnation, Plague Of Happiness, Bo Iqram, Under Headlights, Busco and Diandra Arjunaidi.
The centrepiece of the festival will be the YOUnity Exhibition which will feature the progression of activities over the years to foster unity among the youths, since 1957.
YOUnity Malaysia will also propagate its YOUnity For Charity & YOUnigreen campaigns during the festival.
The exciting festival which will be launched by YB Dato's Sri Ahmad Shabery Bin Cheek, Minister Of Youth & Sports, and YB Seantor Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Minister inthe Prime Minister's Department, is targeted at Malaysian youth and is aimed at empowering them in entrepreneurship (ie. Blogger Bazaar), public performances and appearances, and to create awareness on unity, ETP, GTP, Rukun Negara and the 1Malaysia concept.
YOUnity Malaysia aims to make the event a yearly affair and is also keen to bring the concept on tour throughout Malaysia.
The valiant effort is supported by corporate sponsors TM, P1, Celcom, Dell, Nikon and participated by independent brands Macbeth Footwear, PopMyBerry, Switchblade KL, Cut Out Magazine, Red Garage Malaysia & The District.
