Showdown Top 10 (Episode 7) @ i-City (18/5/11)
MORE BOUNCE ADDED AS CREWS START TO ELEVATE THEMSELVES
Story & Photos: Dragon
Bounce Stepp-ing up to new heights.
After the two live episodes earlier, I was beginning to feel that the bulk of season two contenders, didn't have what it takes to even be in such a demanding competition. As Maple Loo aptly puts it, the performances so far have mostly been "setengah masak" at best. So it was quiet a pleasant surprise to see many of the crews bouncing back strongly and actually elevating themselves from being just mundane and finally showing us that they had the right to represent, this week.
The only serious contenders from the past two episodes have been HMC Phlow & Elecoldxhot (ECX), but ECX simply raised the bar to another level yesterday night, brushing aside nearest rivals HMC, and sending all contenders a strong message, that they are not here to take any prisoners. Following closely on the top two crews heels are Bounce Stepperz, who are totally wicked on stage, but unfortunately not finding a connection with the voting public. Also redeeming themselves well this week, are Panic, who are finally putting together routines with more depth and polish, and Stepholic, who could be Malaysia's answer to the K-Pop invasion, if they could also sing.
The bigger street names Borneo Crew, Force 136, Blazin Squad & Rockustep did put up a stronger showing, but will be left behind if they think their street credence is enough to swing them along.
The biggest disappointed of the night unfortunately was the very likeable Dejavu Breakerz, who showed so much promise at auditions, but simply could not find the pace to keep up with the rest, in a city that is not very forgiving for the less industrious. With their less than adequate showing, it was quite obvious they were going to be shown the exit. They did put up a good battle and I personally felt they should have won it against the more polished Borneo Crew, as they laid out a lot more on the floor than their esteemed but slightly uninterested opponents.
