Syndicate 10 ft Tokimonsta (LA) @ Home Club, 20 Upper Circular Road, Singapore (16/10/10)
When: 10.00pm, Saturday, 16 October 2010
Singapore’s revolutionary transmitter of beats & visual culture plays host to the first lady of beats.
Come Saturday 16 October 2010, the Syndicate stage will be graced by the most prominent female figure from the Los Angeles beat scene, TOKiMONSTA. Also known as the first lady of Flying Lotus’ imprint, Brainfeeder, this is one gal who is on a relentless path to global beats domination.
Her music has been recognized and praised by the very best in avant-garde hip hop and electronica. She has been featured on various large scale radio programs such as the BBC Radio 1. Not only has she caught the ears of many as a different dimension of Los Angeles-based music, TOKiMONSTA is also a 2010 Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) alumni, allowing her to join the ranks of other tastemaker affiliates such as Benga and Theo Parrish.
Her live performance is engaging as well as intricate; using a laptop and other pieces of musical and multimedia gear. She is fearless and energetic performing regularly with the likes of Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing, The Gaslamp Killer and many other of her peers.
Accompanying TOKiMONSTA for the night will be her fellow RBMA 2010 alumni and the first lady of Syndicate herself, Cherry Chan. Masterpiece from funk & soul collective, Pushin’On, will also make his Syndicate debut live with some button-pushing boogie and his array of musical instruments. Keeping up the beats and bass for the night are the Syndicate residents Kiat and Darren Dubwise.
Artistes Line Up:
Tokimonsta (Live) [Brainfeeder, Los Angeles]
Masterpiece (Live) [Pushin’On]
Cherry Chan
Kiat
Darren Dubwise
Visuals by: Brandon Tay & Rafi Dean.
Admission: S$15 (with 1 drink)
About Syndicate:
Against a sanitized backdrop of fast food music, Syndicate was conceived over rounds of beers to reduce the growing impact of harmful beats and caveman frequencies in the accelerated world today. Along the way, it transmogrified into a serious idea to create a space for sonic expression and visual experience in post-efficient Singapore. What initially appeared as rounds of accidental & random recruitment exercise soon resulted in the formation of an audio-visual collective with names that are no strangers to the scene and some that are just strange.
Propelled by the inactivity in the electronic margins of the sunny island, Syndicate is here as a super-collective to fill a void. It is now set to tear apart music categorization and regurgitate something to call its own
