Malaysia managed to once again send a team to the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood, USA this year. Although some of the contestants were unable get their US Visa, Malaysia still managed to send a small team of 12 delegates to the 25th WCOPA. The much anticipated world championship is being held in Anaheim, Los Angeles, from 22nd to 30th July, 2022.
WCOPA, often cited as the official 'Olympics' for aspiring performers, is held annually in Hollywood. It is the only prestigious event of its kind in Los Angelos. Affected by the pandemic, this year's WCOPA saw fewer countries participating, but the excitement and competitive atmosphere still prevailed during its opening ceremony and throughout the competition this far.
The bright, colourful and exciting national costume parade was held at the Anaheim Convention Center, last Sunday, with Team Malaysia adorning and showcasing Sabah's traditional costumes this year. Puan Anil Fahriza Adenan, The Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angelos, En Akbal Setia, Vice President of the Malaysian Tourism Promotional Board in LA and other supportive Malaysians attended the opening ceremony to cheer the team on.
This year Team Malaysia comprised 7 vocalists, 3 dancers and one each in instrumental and modelling. Round one of the World Championship was completed on Monday and Tuesday, 25th & 26th July 2022. After two days of fierce competition, our sole instrumentalist and model, as well well as 5 delegates in the vocals category, made it to the semi-final round.
The semi-finalists are:
Instrumental (25 - 29): Quenner Mitchell Pauzi
Modelling (25 - 29) : Fatin Hamimah Noh
Vocal (13 - 15) : Dayang Irsyadhania Iraril & Amberly Maison
Vocal (16 - 17) : Hayden Hansannon
Vocal (25 - 29) : Noor Hasfizzah Ladin

Team Malaysia is organized and managed by MATME Management and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia. The Malaysian delegation is led by WCOPA veteran, En Romli Bidin, the CEO of Matme, who has discovered and groomed many champions and medallists over the years.
