Miri Country Music Festival @ Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri, Sarawak (25 & 26/11/2022)
Miri Country Music Fest returns this November with Tantowi Yahya and more!
The Miri Country Music Festival will be making its comeback this year with Tantowi Yahya returning as the festival headliner. MCMF 2022 is set to happen 25th to 26th November at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in Miri.
“The idea to organise MCMF was derived from the affection that the local communities have for country music. Mirians are known to embrace not only country music, but they also dress the part donning cowboy outfits. In the past 8 years, MCMF has attracted festival goers with visitors from nearby Bintulu, Brunei, Sabah and regional visitors from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Brunei, Australia and Indonesia,” said YB Dato Sri Haji Abd Karim Rahman Hamzah at the recent launch of MCMF 2022.
“This year’s line-up will definitely not disappoint the audience. I am happy to see the notable performer Tantowi Yahya from Indonesia is making a comeback. I see MCMF this year has new bands and performers such as Ramon Cedillo from Singapore, Cambodia Country Band from US and Cambodia, Johnny Loda Trio from Italy, UK and Thailand, and many more exciting country musicians from peninsular Malaysia and of course not forgetting our very own performers from Sarawak,” he further added.
Festival founder Gracie Geikie added that MCMF aims to partner with Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) to market the music festival in Singapore, packaging it together with direct flights from Singapore and special tour packages around the northern region of Sarawak.
“We have selected several CSR partners to collaborate and work with for MCMF this year – The Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak Malaysia (FORUM), the Miri Photography Society, Miri Performing Arts Association and Borneo Medical Centre Miri. Giving these partners a space and platform to showcase their products and services is our small way of supporting these organisations and to give back to the community,” added Gracie.
This year, MCMF 2022 invites local and international performers and festival goers to join in The Buku Project by bringing their 2nd hand books to MCMF to be collected and donated to children and residents of Sarawak rural areas, Long Lama and Long Atip, in hopes of providing reading material to educate, entertain and improve reading literacy among the underprivileged.
MCMF 2022 is expected to attract 2000 festival goers. Early bird tickets are now on sale at RM 80.00 per-day and RM 120.00 for a 2-day pass. More information on ticket purchase can be found at www.miricountrymusic.com and Miri Country Music Fest Facebook page. For enquiries call 082 555189 or email fifi@placeborneo.com.

MCMF Through The Years.
The Miri Country Music Festival was first created in 2014 and has been deemed the first international country and western music festival in Malaysia and said to be the only one of its kind in South East Asia. Throughout the years, MCMF has featured many local and international bands with different styles of music – some came all the way from Australia, USA, Britain. Germany, Singapore. Indonesia, Czech Republic and European expats working in the Asian region. MCMF supports both Malaysian and international, big and small, country music performers and gives them a platform to showcase and promote their music to a wider audience.
The idea to organize MCMF was derived from the affection that the local communities have for country music. Mirians are known to embrace not only country music, but also other elements associated to country music such as clothes and accessories associated with cowboys, cowgirls and country music fashion. In the past years, MCMF has attracted festival goers from all walks of life, ranging from expats working in Miri, Bintulu, Brunei, Sabah, visitors from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Brunei, Australia and locals from Sabah, Miri, Kuching, Bintulu and even country music enthusiasts all the way from Lawas and Bario.
MCMF has not only featured music performances but also music workshops, dance workshops and activities for the whole family to enjoy, making it a family-friendly event that caters to all ages. At MCMF, local vendors are carefully sourced to create a bazaar of unique food & beverage items, souvenirs and locally made crafts, in an effort to support and give local small businesses a place to promote their products. A tradition at every edition of MCMF is the voting of best dressed cowboys and cowgirls, with winners being awarded hotel stays and free air travel to holiday destinations in Sarawak.
The event further helps to promote the economic and tourism sector in Miri as many of the foreign festival goers and performers opt to extend their stay to sightsee and visit noteworthy attractions nearby Miri city like the Niah caves and Mulu National Park, a world heritage area with the world’s largest cave passage and longest cave in South East Asia, with caves dating back to 5 million years ago.
During the global pandemic in 2020, MCMF was done virtually as a tribute show performed by MCMF alumni of past performers, as a way to keep MCMF alive and entertain those at home who were under lockdown.
MCMF 2022 returns 25th & 26th November 2022 to an all-new location at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, ensuring ample space for more family-friendly activities. The notable performers this year are Tantowi Yahya from Indonesia, Ramon Cedillo from Singapore, Cambodia Country Band from Cambodia, Johnny Loda Trio from Italy, UK and Thailand, and many more exciting country musicians.
