Lockdown Listen Day 19 (01/08/2021)
Day 19 of Lockdown Listen yesterday got us moving old school style to this album:
44. Funkytown Volume 2 (Tme Warner).
This 2-disc 30-track 1995 compilation album is the perfect introduction to popular dance music of the period. Those who used to frequent places like Piccadilly, Baze 2, Scandals, Modestos, Branigans, Jump, Tin Mine, Voodoo and the like will be familiar with all these staples of the time. Most of us urban working class would be making our way to our own local funkytowns on the weekends in our souped up XGI Turbos, TX3s or Preludes, with music like this blasting away from our Rockford Fosgates, Alpines, Clarions or Pioneers, as a warm up to a great party night.
This was and is a truly an essential collection. You simply can't go wrong with MC Hammer, Gloria Estefan, Herbie Hancock, Salt 'N' Pepper, Bobby Brown, Gloria Gaynor, Shalamar and the like.
