Lockdown Listen Day 14 (26/07/2021)
Day 14 of Lockdown Listen saw us going a little urban yesterday. These 3 albums were taking turns in our CD player:
34. Chris Brown - Exclusive (Sony BMG)
35. Arrested Development - 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of.. (EMI)
36. The Story of Acid Jazz (Metro Doubles)
"Exclusive", Chris Brown's sophomore studio effort from 2007 confirmed his stature as a relevant R&B artiste of the 21st century. 14 years on, the star has sold over 140 million records worldwide, won a Grammy, 15 BETs, four Billboard Music Awards, and six Soul Train Music Awards, and has had 93 singles on Billboard's Top 100.
"3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of.." is the debut album by Arrested Development and is a fabulous introduction to alternative hip hop. The title of the album refers to how long it took the band to get a record contract. The 1992 album with the anti-gangsta slant features the songs People Everyday, Mr Wendal and Tennessee, some of the most significant tracks of all time. The album was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and we are glad we have it in our collection. If you an urban fan, add this to your collection.
We gave you a sneek peak to acid jazz a few days ago but if you want a more serious introduction to the genre, the 2-disc 28-track "The Story of Acid Jazz" will not disappoint.
Apart from a few usual suspects in the tracklist, the rest may draw a blank to most. But don't let that deter you from enjoying this well curated selection of musical art. We are quite certain you will be grooving like a regular cool cat at no time at all.
Stream them from most digital platforms and enjoy.
