Lockdown Listen Day 11 (23/07/2021)
We could not hear much on Day 11 of Lockdown Listen. Since we were busy yesterday, we only had the following CD on repeat:
31. JTL - Enter The Dragon
"Enter The Dragon" is the 2001 debut album by Korean pop trio JTL, who are breakaway members of H.O.T., the bestselling KPop group from former principals SM Entertainment.
The 11-track album is produced by YJ Music and features a host of songs that will easily get you engaged and moving along, eventhough its 20 years old.
The song that stood out was their debut single, "A Better Day", a cover song taken from Norwegian band Multicyde, which happens to trace back to an 1977 Norwegian song by Henning Sommero called "Vårsøg". Apparently "Vårsøg" also has its roots elsewhere, namely a 1945 Norvegian poem by Hans Hyldbakk.
Another interesting fact about this album is the song "One Night Lover" uses the rhythm and melody of the Stevie Wonder's song "Part Time Lover".
"Enter The Dragon" is definitely one of the better KPop offerings over the last two decades, not withstanding the fact that the group did not require to be filled to the brim with members. The tiny group however disbanded after their second album in 2003, as their promotional campaigns were thwarted by their influential former producer. All members have successfully pursued solo careers since.
The fact that we had their CD on repeat, means that we enjoyed it thoroughly. Find it on streaming services if you want to get an excellent taste of KPop from the past.
