Lockdown Listen Day 10 (22/07/2021)
10 days of Lockdown Listen leads us to these splendid albums:
29. Lilly Allen - Sheezus (Parlophone)
30. Australian Legends II (EMI)
Sheezus, the third studio album released in 2014 by English singer Lily Allen after a five year hiatus, is a flawless pop album. It's as fresh and fun today as it was when it was first released 7 years ago. Most may still remember the hit "Air Balloon" from this album, but this album in itself feels like a greatest hits album as every track on it feels like a commercial hit.
Despite the passing of time, Sheezus continues to remain current and relevant. Any of its songs, if released as a single today will be a chart topper even now. Simply put Sheezus has not aged, not even one bit. It will put most of the pop releases over the last year or so, to shame.
The 12-track Malaysian edition comes with a 4-track bonus CD. This is a must have, in any genuine music listeners collection, so please track it down, especially the physical version. Owning the stylish sleeve art and album booklet is a must too.
What do Crowded House, Men At Work, Natalie Imbruglia, Tina Arena, Kylie Minogue and Silverchair all have in common? They are all considered legends in their native Australia and a bit beyond. But there are a lot more Australian legends which we may not have heard of, simply because they are not given the prominence beyond their shores. Which doesn't mean they are not important to the global music scene. Sadly all our popular international music input is dictated by Billboard, causing us to miss out on the outstanding and vibrant music scene Down Under. "Australian Legends II" (and also volume one which we are trying to locate) here, offers you a great cross section of what the rest of the world has been missing.
Every one of the 40 tracks in this multi-genre double CD compilation is a winner. The album was on repeat cycle here in our home office, the whole of yesterday. We loved every artiste on this well curated compilation but Paul Kelly, Do.Re.Me., Absent Friends and Hoodoo Gurus kept us reaching for the remote and truly deserve a special mention. If you want a great introduction to the Australian music scene, you can't go wrong with this. Just explore and be amazed.
You can find both albums through streaming services.
