Lockdown Listen Day 1 (13/07/2021)
Since we are stuck at home due to MCO 3.0, we decided to go through our entire physical music library, by listening to all of it bit by bit everyday.
We will call this campaign "LOCKDOWN LISTEN!!!" and will present here every CD we listened to in our home office the day before. We may say something about what we heard and would also like you to share your thoughts if these albums triggers anything from you.
1. Simply Red - Greatest Hits (Warner Music)
2. Elton John - Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits (Mercury/Universal)
3. Select Magazine HOT! (Vital/CWNN)
4. Unconditionally Guaranteed 1 Feb 99 (Uncut)
5. Q: Best of 2001 (Q Magazine)
6. Alphaville - First Harvest 1984-92 (WEA)
Both Simply Red and Elton John albums here are a must have for all bona-fide fans and also newbies who want an exemplarary introduction to these stellar singer-singerwriters. All tracks are absolutely evergreen with nothing you will be really be disappointed with. Definitely our star picks.
Except for a very few charting tracks such as Big In Japan in this Alphaville collection, the rest which may have been cool in the late eighties/early nineties, will seem a bit difficult to digest, even for diehard eighties fans like us.
Uncut's compilation has a few excellent surprises and offers enough diversity to keep us keen. Even better selections can be found in Q's and Select Magazines offerings. Some tracks need deeper listening and a while to stick.
Except for the dated sounding Alphaville, the rest kept us in the mood in our home office throughout the day as we went through our daily news updates.
