With cinemas being allowed to reopen in CMCO and RMCO areas from 5th March 2021, GSC Cinemas has officially announced the re-opening of some of its cinemas (list at the bottom).
Screening from tomorrow are the animated movies Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train and Doraemon 2: Stand By Me, with fan screenings of both movies scheduled for 6th & 7th March 2021.
Also coming to the silver screen this March are Disney's Raya: The Last Dragon, Don't Look Back, End Game, Master, Monster Hunter, The Con-Heartist, Your Eyes Tell and the much anticipated Godzilla vs Kong which should be in cinemas on 25th March 2021.
Also announced recently was the acquisition of the majority of MBO's cinema assets from MCAT Box Office Sdn Bhd and Reel Entertainment Holdings Sdn Bhd, by PPB Group Bhd, the owners of GSC Cinemas. The Asset Sale Agreement which was signed on 23rd February 2021 is expected to be completed by the end of June 2021. MBO is the third largest cinema chain in Malaysia with 27 locations nationwide.
"We are confident that the acquisition of the MBO cinema assets together with the impending rollout of the vaccine will help accelerate our recovery from this pandemic,” said Ms Koh Mei Lee, Chief Executive Officer of GSC.
"Despite the present challenging business environment, this acquisition is strategic and will help strengthen our market leadership position. The cinema business is one of the core operations at PPB Group and we remain committed to the growth of the vibrant cinema sector." Koh added.
GSC Cinemas believes the big screen experience cannot be replicated at home and there is no comparable substitute for sitting in a darkened hall in a communal setting, sharing a cinematic experience with friends or families, as humans are social beings, and the movie-going lifestyle is still the most accessible and affordable form of entertainment and recreation.
However, the strictest of SOPs will be observed by GSC Cinemas during this pandemic situation, to ensure the safety and well being of its loyal patrons.
Stay tuned as we announce the cinemas that will be open from tomorrow.
