IBCI INTENDS TO REDEFINE THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY
Story: Dragon Visuals: IBCI
With the high demand for beauty and aesthetics, the professional beauty industry in Malaysia has been mushrooming with businesses offering an exponential variety of beauty or aesthetic related services, therapies and treatments.
If you walk through any mall or commercial centres throughout the nation you are bound to be faced with an unprecedented number of options from outlets promoting a host of well-intentioned services - from basic facials, nail care, hair removals to complicated face and body treatments that incorporate high technology, and may include both non-invasive or invasive procedures.
According to statistics, 38.9% of consumers, mostly around the ages of 18 to 40, spend an average of RM 300 to RM 600 per month on enhancing their looks. And interestingly, the beauty industry is no longer just the domain of the female consumer. It has well and truly crossed into male territory.
Unfortunately, many of the beauty practionaires or entrepreneurs servicing these consumers rarely have any form of formal training or certifications, to ensure that they are suitably qualified to conduct their trade or can assure their customers that they are sufficiently adept. This is where International Beauty Certified Institute (IBCI) comes in. The brainchild of experienced beauty industry consultant and its passionate founder and dean Darren Soo, IBCI intends to ensure that all beauty practionaires are properly educated, have acquired the appropriate skill sets and are also formally certified in their specific areas of practice.
Soo who is the founder of Unicorn Beauty Business School, created IBCI last year, to address the needs of the industry for professional beauty education and also to liaise with the government, with the aim to protect the rights and interests of consumers by improving the education system of the beauty industry.
IBCI was also developed to redefine the business legality and standardization of the beauty industry by creating a high-end and intelligent communication platform for peers in the beauty industry.
Its overall vision is to create a more productive and healthier beauty industry ecosystem, that focuses on professionalism, safety, quality and efficacy, all of which are key concerns of the modern-day consumer.
“We want to redefine the education system in this beauty industry.” expressed a determined Soo during a virtual media interview session.
IBCI will be focused on three segments of education - beauty skills upgrade, beauty business management and beauty technology networking. Programs covered will include topics such as Hairdressing, Medical Cosmetology, Beauty, Embroidery, Nail Treatment, Chinese Medical Cosmetology, Big Health and Zeer.
IBCI is currently working with local universities such Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and with overseas markets that include The Philippines, a country well known for beauty queens and its beauty industry.
Due to the current MCO, IBCI which has already been In operations since early 2020, has not proceeded to conduct any classes as yet.
