Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation has announced Jasebel Robert from Kuala Lumpur as Miss Grand Malaysia 2020 on its Facebook page, after going through a comprehensive virtual interview process and public vote in determining the winner.
The national pageant which has been postponed due to the restriction in staging an event during the Movement Control Order was instead made virtually in deciding the winner as to prepare the delegate for the upcoming Miss Grand International 2020 to be held in Bangkok, Thailand this coming March where more than 50 countries are expected to participate.
“Despite the challenges, we are immensely proud to officially welcome our new queen although not celebrated in the most conventional way. Nevertheless, we believe Jasebel will make the nation proud at the international pageant who perfectly fits the epitome of Miss Grand International,” said Jude Benjamin Lisa, National Director, Miss Grand Malaysia.
Standing at 173cm tall, the stunning beauty is a 25-year-old mass communications graduate originating from a cross-cultural Chinese and Indian family. She is fluent in 4 languages including English, Malay, Mandarin and Teochew. Her belief that knowledge is key also inspires Jasebel to learn new languages and cultures including Thai and Spanish.
As a true believer of aspiring to more than what she already is, Jasebel relishes in reading philosophies and biographies to facilitate a positive mindset and delights in passing this knowledge to others. She embraces a regular workout routine and healthy lifestyle, as she believes that overall well-being is the essence of a joyous existence.
Jasebel said, “This truly came in as the best gift welcoming in the new year. I would like to thank the organization for entrusting me with this responsibility and not forgetting those who have helped me throughout the journey until today. As the world is still battling with the Covid-19 pandemic, I will use this opportunity to highlight my advocacy which is relevant to this time and age.”
Her advocacy on equality and education for all regardless of race, sex and status, coupled with the cessation of all war and violence, especially domestic violence is a relevant topic during this period. And this will be made possible leveraging on social media and digital collaboration to engage to a wider audience.
On another note, the remaining 17 finalists of Miss Grand Malaysia 2020 will still be competing at a gala event to be held later. It was announced 6 best finalists from the virtual selection have qualified to the next stage including Malveen Kaur, Lishalliny Kanaran, Sarah Cyntia, Pretty Tey, Kimberly Soh and Kelly Cahill where 4 national titles will be awarded.
