The total number of active COVID-19 cases currently being treated has been reduced to 1,387, with 16 in ICU and 4 on respirators, with many COVID-19 wards in public hospitals beginning to look near empty. The Health Director-General, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, however, warned the nation not to get complacent despite the progress being made.
Fifty-eight patients were discharged today, but unfortunately, there were two fatalities reported. Our condolences to the bereaved.
As for new cases, 37 were reported within the last 24 hours, with 4 imported and 33 locally transmitted. Of the locally transmitted cases, 21 involved expatriates. The majority of the cases numbering at 20 were from the Pedas chicken factory cluster in Negeri Sembilan, which currently has a total of 150 active cases with one discharged. The Madrasah Solok Duku and the IPT Sabah clusters reported 2 new cases each. Efforts are underway to determine the source of the IPT Sabah cluster after the first student was infected on 12th May 2020. The latest two are also from the same varsity. According to Dr Noor, the students despite being quarantined for four weeks may have been infected by staff moving in and out of the varsity. Stringent measures are currently ongoing to contain the spread. The Benus, Pesantren, Selangor Mansion and Sendayan clusters recorded 1 case each. No new cases were reported from the strictly monitored EMCO locations of Selayang Baru, Jalan Othman Market and Pusat Bandar Utara Kuala Lumpur & areas surrounding Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur (Selayang).
