MORE COVID-19 CASES FOUND IN CHOW KIT MARKET CLUSTER WITH TARGETED SCREENING

With 88 COVID-19 cases being discharged today, the number of active cases has been reduced to 1,504 with 20 in ICU and 7 on respirators. Unfortunately, a 63-year-old man being treated at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur from COVID-19 died from his illness. He was also diabetic and had liver cancer. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved.
As for new cases, 70 were reported today taking the cumulative total to 6,726. Thirteen of the cases were from Malaysians returning from abroad while 57 others were locally transmitted with 31 involving expatriates. The Chow Kit market cluster in Kuala Lumpur saw 29 new infections while the Pesantren cluster picked up another 8. Eleven patients from the Chow Kit cluster have already been released with 71 active cases still being treated. Of the total of 82 cases that were registered, 66 are foreigners. Fifty-one patients from the Pesantren cluster have already been discharged thus far from the cumulative total of 230, with 179 still undergoing treatment.
The Cheras security personal cluster saw another positive case as well did the Sendayan cluster in Seremban. The total number of cases from the Cheras security personal cluster stands at 13. One of them is Malaysian while the rest are foreigners. Eighty-one of the 110 cases in the Sendayan cluster have already been discharged thus far.
Of the 13 imported cases recorded today, 8 are residents of Negeri Sembilan while 5 are residents of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya. Eight cases were from Malaysians returning from Indonesia, 2 returning from Emirates and 1 each from those returning from Singapore, The Philippines and Myanmar. Most numbers of imported cases at 240 originate from Indonesia, with a cumulative total of 353 cases brought back from 23 countries.
