Malaysia CNY Open House @ Pandamaran, Klang (20/02/10)
The 2010 Malaysia Chinese New Year Open House in Pandamaran, Klang, on Feb 20 will be an opportunity for leaders to mingle with the rakyat in an informal manner. Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Culture Senator Heng Seai Kei, said the event will begin at 6.30pm and will go on till 11pm, and will give an avenue for all Malaysians to get a taste of the Chinese celebration in a Chinese new village that still maintained the community's traditions.
The celebration which will be graced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, will also be attended by Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Utama Rais Yatim and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, who is also Transport Minister.
"All Cabinet ministers, members of parliament, senators, Selangor state assemblymen, Kuala Lumpur representatives and opposition leaders are invited to attend the event," she said at a news conference at the Sultan Abdul Samad Building here today.
Heng said the Chinese New Year this year will promote the community's culture through calligraphy and origami besides having shows by Kumpulan Kesenian Muhibah 1Malaysia, Kumpulan Kesenian Sokagakai (Selangor), Kumpulan Tradisi Kesenian India, Kumpulan Kesenian Angklung, Topeng Remaja Cina (Jorinn Chee Ka-Yee), Kumpulan Kaki Kayu and Singa Akrobatik dancers.
"True to the this Chinese New Year's icon, namely the Tiger, a special Tiger Dance will be staged," she said. The event will also have appearances by celebrities Ning Baizura, Rynn Lim, Xiao Hei, Gary Chow and Michael Wong. Heng said about 20,000 people from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are expected to attend. There will be lucky draws for laptops, mobile phones and broadband services, she said.
