MIFFEST 2017 & MGGA 2017 Films & Nominees Reveal Press Conference @ TGV Cinemas, Sunway Velocity Mall, KL (8/2/17)
23 FILMS FROM 13 COUNTRIES AT INAUGURAL MIFFEST 2017, WITH 18 VYING FOR HONOURS AT MGGA 2017

Festival Programmer Ong Lay Jin with Festival Chairman Joanne Goh
The Malaysia International Film Festival 2017 and Malaysia Golden Global Awards officially announced all participating films and all awards nominees at a press conference held at the TGV Cinemas in Sunway Velocity Mall, in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday afternoon.
Film fans will be able to catch 23 films from 13 countries during the festival which runs from 28th February to 4th March 2017, at Nu Sentral (Opening Ceremony) and TGV cinemas in Sunway Velocity & KLCC in Kuala Lumpur. The awards night will see 18 films vying for various honors in 7 categories on 5th March 2017, in Genting Highlands. The nominated films will be competing for Best New Director (5), Best Screenplay (18), Best Cinematography (18), Best Director (5), Best Actor (5), Best Actress (5) and Best Film (18). Taiwanese entry Road To Mandalay staring Hong Kong superstar Aaron Kwok and directed by Myanmar-born Taiwanese director Midi Z, leads the pack with 6 nominations. It has already won the Fedeora Award for Best Film at the 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival. Coming close with 5 nominations each are One Night Only (China), Toni Erdmann (Germany), The Wailing (S,Korea) and Ma Rosa (The Philippines). Malaysia's entries in this inaugural festival are Singing In Graveyards (4 nominations), a joint venture with The Philippines, and Interchange (3). Singing in Graveyards has already won the Audience Award for Best Film at the 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival.

Revealing the details of the festival, were its Festival Programmer Ong Lay Jin and Festival Chairman Joanne Goh. Also attending the event was Asian Film Commissioners Network (AFCNET) Vice President Datuk Kamil Othman, who is also the festivals Programme Director. The inaugural Miffest 2017 and MGGA 2017 is organised by Jazzy Group and is supported by Finas and TGV Cinemas.
