"Can we stop for a bit. These hot babes have got our hearts racing too fast."
Renown Cantopop stars, Alan Tam and Hacken Lee, teamed up to enthrall the 20,000 strong crowd that had gathered at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, with more than 30 of their signature songs from their long repertoire of Chinese hits, during their recent mega concert here. Their popular concert themed “Jor Lun Yau Lei” (Neighbours) was part of their World Tour 2009 that kicked off early this year in Hong Kong and had recorded a total of 13 consecutive sell-out shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Popular local singer & music producer, Tang Xiao Kang opened the Malaysian concert with two songs, before the Cantopop legends took to the stage for a 3 hour extravaganza.
Alan: "Hey Hacken, what's with the low cut top?"
Although the concert proceeded at a slow pace initially, in most part due to song selections, it gradually built up enough momentum to finish with a bang, as the seasoned duo eventually captured many hearts with their evergreen songs, impressive and dazzling costumes, great dance moves, awesome stage design, and their sexy and energetic back up dancers. Alan & Hacken had no problems interacting well with the audience and soon had everyone singing and dancing to their songs. Both of them had their own short solo segments during the concert where they each rendered their own new song.
Hacken: "Don't be a prude Alan, lets see those chest hair."
"We hope these girls can keep up with super studs like us."
During a dance medley segment, both of them posed like bodybuilders on top of a raised stage to show off their muscles. Hacken said that they have been both working out diligently to achieve their form while Alan jokingly added that he had worked out his 6 pack into a single pack as he pointed to his belly. Alan also mentioned that the song that best described his relationship with Hacken is “First of May” by the Bee Gees and the duo gave an impressive rendition of the song.
No, they are not ambassadors for Rexona!
For the more physically demanding dance moves, the stars choreographer, Sunny, stood in for Alan as Alan had suffered an injury to his legs a few months earlier and was still recovering. But being a good sport that he was, Alan was still seen shaking it about at the back, as Hacken & Sunny gyrated up front . Alan, later exclaimed that between the two of them, they had so many songs in their repertoire and at times sounded so alike, until they sometimes forget who is singing which part of a song.
The stars must have dropped by the Kenanga wholesale fashion district earlier.
During the encore, the audience were asked to choose a favourite song from 2 selected songs from each of the singers and the one that received the loudest applause would be performed by them. It was rather a difficult decision as the applause seemed to favour all the songs equally. Eventually, Alan & Hacken had to sing two numbers each, to please their eager fans, which earned a hearty approval from all. The unending applause continued until Alan closed the concert by saying that it was time for them to go and have their favourite black pepper crabs. (Editor's note: I wonder where?)
"You still haven't paid me back from the last time we had crabs?"
The successful mega concert was presented by cellular heavyweights Celcom Biz and organized by the experienced & rising concert promoter, Star Planet.
