Shooting Star The Musical: A Tribute To Leslie Cheung, Danny Chan & Paul Chung @ Genting Highlands
MUSICAL EVOKES FOND MEMORIES WITH IT'S TRIBUTE TO 3 SUPERSTARS

This Musical Tribute that turned the clock back to the eighties indeed brought back fond memories of the three superstars. The trio impersonator relived the life of Leslie, Danny and Paul at the Genting International Showroom on 25 and 26 September 2009.
Leslie and Danny was the first generation of pop idols while Paul became a popular host for radio and television stations.
The Musical Tribute started at 8.20pm with a lively song from Leslie. Paul came on stage and introduced to everyone. He narrated how this trio as childhood friends staying in the same neighbourhood and later became celebrities in the entertainment world.
Paul encouraged Leslie and Danny to take part in a singing competition as the winner will be awarded with a recording contract. Danny took first prize while Leslie came out fourth. Danny recorded his debut album and went on to top the chart for five weeks.
The trio have not met for a while as all of them were busy with the career and finally met at a charity show. Leslie was eventually signed up as a recording artist with the same company as Danny. Danny even composed a song for Leslie but Leslie commented that this song is more suitable for Danny. Meanwhile, Leslie album sales were not making the expected numbers and were told to leave. He was once booed off the stage during a public performance, and his first two albums were not welcomed by the public.
In the meantime, Paul’s wealth kept on increasing through his investment in the stock market while continuing to host more prestige television live shows. As for Leslie, after decided to go with Polydor Records, he found fame with Capital Artist and became very popular by belting up hits songs one after another. During these three years he held five concerts and Danny appeared in one of his concert as a special guest artist.
While Leslie’s popularity increased, Danny’s career took a dive claiming that songs written by the producer was not suitable for him. Danny became very stressful and he turned to drugs and alcoholism to ease his depression. It was similar situation with Paul too. His lavish lifestyle gained from shares investments also took a dive. In fact not only he lost on what he gained from the stock market but were in heavy debts too.
Paul committed suicide on 1 September 1989 in his own house. Much information said that he had many debts at the time of his death. He died at the age of thirty. One of his most recognized work that was being praised by many as the best host for Miss Hong Kong 1985.
In 1991, Chan announced his decision to leave the Hong Kong music industry. He held a farewell concert in Shanghai in 1992 and subsequently retired from the Cantopop music industry. On 18 May 1992, Danny was found unconscious and was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong. He never regained consciousness from his coma and died seventeen months later at the age of thirty five. There were rumors that he had consumed a mixture of alcohol and drugs which led to his coma. Others speculated that he had an overdosed of drugs, suffered depression and had attempted suicide.
Leslie also committed suicide on 1 April 2003. He leapt from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, located in the Central district of Hong Kong Island. He left a suicide note saying that he had been suffering from depression. He was 46 years old.
More than forty songs were sang and the tribute finally ended at 10.10pm with Paul introducing the Director of this musical tribute, Mr. Lo Chun Ho to gave a short speech and a words of thanks to the sponsors.
