First of all, let me be clear about this. The best VOICE in OIAM belongs to Azfar. Do not even have an inkling of doubt about that. Whether he sings pop or nusantara, he brings it on. He should never have been in the bottom 4. Enough said.
However, the BEST ENTERTAINER of OIAM has consistently been Faizal, who will most likely and deservedly win this inaugural show.
By the way, Aliya as expectedly was sent home. Simply because she absolutely did not connect with the audience, at all during this entire competition.
Now for the drama.
Paul Moss rightfully prescribed a dose of reality to all the contestants yesterday, and not just Suki, although Suki may have got the brunt of it. If even golden girl Suki is not immune from a scathing attack from Uncle Paul, then everyone should take heed and have a good think on what they have to do to achieve their goals.
So Paul Moss made Suki cry. Must have been shattering for a 16 year old and may seem extremely harsh but honestly, he did her a tremendous favour. It was the wake up call of all wake up calls. Hopefully, Suki will take it in the right way, and show us what she is truly capable off. I don't want to forever say that Suki has talent, and tell everyone to give her chance to show it...blah, blah, blah...I want her to really do it, and right away too. After all there is not much time left. Its now or never, or Suki might as well just retire from the competition right now, and go back to school. I am not going to make apologies for her anymore. If she wants this bad enough, she has to be hungry enough for it, and stop riding on her only asset at the moment which is her overwhelming fan support. Even that may not last long, once the fans become dissillusioned with her. Notice, this week they did not announce who had the highest votes - it could be anyone of the five seated. Maybe its Faizal or Dayang, now. It could have been Alif too, who may have slowly built up his fan base, week by week. Or it could be Froggieboo Lokman with his endearing slumberness and comic personality.
Zai has to wake up too (but maybe its just too late now). The promise that she showed from the auditions has completely faded away. Syafinaz was absolutely right when she attacked Zai's laidback kampung-ish attitude with regards to her song selection. Even the media attacked that attitude as was seen in the Diaries, during the Media Workshop. You wanna win a million RM by doing just enuff to get by? In fact it didn't even seem enuff to get by, and I strongly believe that Zai is gonna be the next casualty.
Next on the wake up list is definitely Lokman. Mr Happy-Go-Lucky who seems to be on a lottery ticket ride. Every week he throws the dice and somehow he is back again. Don't get me wrong. This guy can sing, and sing really well. he has the charisma, charm & the personality to go far. What irks me, even though I like him, is his way too laidback attitude in this competition. Its like he is banking on good fortune and a smiley face to take him through. He did a much better job this week, but its still not strong enough to take on the likes of those who really want to win this and who are doing everything they can to do it. Whatever it is I liked the super cool attire.
Alif actually sang very well this week and should be happy with his performance, despite smiling throughout a song that was supposed to be sad. And the important thing is he is slowly cultivating a following for himself. Good job.
Dayang was a complete disaster for me. Her performance was so plain and ordinary and she could not even match her own performances of past. She seemed so punctured and out of breath and was struggling with a song she could do so easily even with her ears closed. I guess its because Paul Moss has been trying to mould her into somebody she can never be for weeks now. And she is actually trying to do that. Unfortunately, it is destroying the Dayang we are accustomed too. Please Dayang, just retire before the damage cannot be reversed. Yes, your fans will keep you in for another week, but very soon the rest of Malaysia may just send you home. Hopefully sooner, for your own sake. Luckily reality dawned on Paul also this week, as seen by his comments on Dayang.
Faizal Tahir continues to show us why he deserves to be the OIAM despite performing with a viral fever. I can't stand Ashley Simpson and her songs, but Faizal completely made L.O.V.E. his own, and made it so listenable and entertaining. And he is absolutely connecting with his audience on top of that, as can be seen when the audience sang his verses for him when he thrust his mikestand at them. Looks like even kryptonite will not stop this Superman.
When Farah started "Time After Time", I went "Oh no, she is just going to ruin it" but after 2 lines I realised she had completely made it her own and was doing justice to the song. Then I went "oh no, now she will probably ruin the ending", but that didn't happen either. She did a splendid job and finished on a beautiful high, and even a hardcore critic like me was more than satisfied. She is as, Paul Moss says, one of the only 2 who are willing to take risks to win this competion. Full points for that. Hopefully she will get more than just the Farahnatics votes, which she truly deserves.
As for the judging this week, Paul Moss is continuing his form from last week. The textbook queen has also toned down her disertations and is mercifully judging slighly less archaicly than before. And the rest of us still enjoy the cat fights between Paul & Syafinaz, especially Mrs Dragon, who gets real excited when they do. By the way I use Mrs Dragon as one of my barometers, so I can understand how the general viewer perceives the show. So far, it looks like Mrs Dragon is rooting for Faizal and ... Paul Moss.
Who is gonna fall next week? Let's just say Zai is standing too close the edge.
