COLOMBIAN COFFEE GROWERS' PREMIUM JUAN VALDEZ CAFE TO STIMULATE KL COFFEE LOVERS

Colombia's premium coffee chain Juan Valdez Cafe brewed into town yesterday evening, with an aromatic grand launch of its very first South East Asian outlet which is located within The Intermark, Kuala Lumpur. Officiating the launch were Hernan Mendez, President of Procafecol, and Barbara Caceres, Director of MY Coffee Asia Sdn Bhd, who are the franchisees for Malaysia. The swanky event was witnessed by Camilo Salazar, the Charge D'Affaires of the Embassy of Colombia, and a host of sharply dressed VIP guests, as well as the members of the media, at the cafe chain's very first flagship "Origins" format cafe outside of Colombia. Also present was special guest "Juan Valdez", who is the brand's real life mascot, and an actual coffee grower, that was selected in an American Idol style search to be the face of Juan Valdez Cafes. The Juan Valdez chain is run by Procafecol, the company that owns the brand. The Colombian Coffee Growers Association (FNC) which represents 500,000 coffee growing families is its major shareholder, and over 18,000 individual coffee growers are its investors as well. Juan Valdez which already has 268 cafes worldwide and is operating in 13 countries, is planning to open at least six new outlets here in Malaysia shortly.
