Lee Hom "Music-Man" Live In Malaysia 2009
Move over Indiana Jones, Batman, Superman, Incredible Hulk, Bruce Lee, Lara Croft, Ironman and Spiderman, because we have the latest superhero in town ….. THE MUSIC MAN, with his weapon, a dragon-shaped electric guitar called Bahamut, here to save the world through his music.
Wang Lee Hom sang, beatboxed, rapped, ripped up awesome tunes on his Bahamut, plunked the grand piano, banged on the drums and stroked his violin, and even did a phenomenal dance routine in front of 25,000 odd fans who sang along with him every step of the way. He showed his immaculate vocal prowess and his versatility in handling different musical genres such as mandopop, rock, jazz, R&B and also traditional Chinese music. Everything simply synergised perfectly - the band, the huge digital screens, back up dancers, lightings etc.
Danell Lee (Malaysian Idol Season 2 winner) opened the show with his energetic rendition of “Yin Wei You Ai” in which he did a few hip hop moves as well. Kay (Project Superstar Season 3 winner) was the second guest performer. She did a medley of two songs “Wo Lian Ai Ler “and “Ka Tong Ren”, dancing rather cutely to the approval of the anxiously waiting crowd.
Finally the moment everyone was waiting for came and the crowd went wild with uncontrollable screams. Lee Hom’s USD 25,000 customed designed dragon shaped "Bahamut" made a grand entrance, coming down from the roof and landing on the floor, then quickly making its way back up again. Immediately after, the Music Man came down in something that looked like a small flying saucer akin to the one used by the Green Goblin in Spiderman. After singing his third song, he changed his normal guitar to his precious Bahamut and stunned the crowd with its electrifying sounds. After his fifth number, Lee Hom came down from the stage and the over excited crowd went into a frenzy, rushing quickly to the front to get closer to him.
The multi talented Lee Hom also mesmerized the crowd while playing the grand piano, singing crowd favourites which included “Ni Bu Zhai” and “Wei Yi’.
Nearing the end of the concert, Lee Hom did a disappearing act. He climbed into a box on the stage and appeared a second later somewhere in the middle of the stadium. The crowd started to mob him but luckily, the organizers had already stationed security personnel on both sides of the walkway to escort him back to the stage.
Lee Hom sang a total of 28 songs, finally climaxing with a 3 song encore. His final number for the night was "Kiss Goodbye" which was appropriate for the closing. Lee Hom acknowledged his fans from different countries by speaking in their respective languages. Many had came from as far as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Singapore & Australia to party along with the rest of us here from Malaysia, and the whole stadium roared in appreciation. Even with with so many numbers performed, none of his fans wanted to kiss him goodbye, that night.
Once again, experienced concert promoters Galaxy, delivered on their promise of bringing top quality musical acts to Malaysia, and we believe everyone will be looking forward to their next endevour with baited breath. Thank you Galaxy.
A full house was certainly not unexpected for superstar Lee Hom.
It was quite an honour for our very own 2nd Malaysian Idol, Danell Lee to open for Lee Hom...
...who had a fair share fans in the audience.
It was an even bigger honour for Kay, winner of Project Superstar 3 to grace the stage, ahead of Lee Hom.
Kay must have been really thrilled, her head nearly dropped off.
This USD25,000 masterpiece was custom made for Lee Hom by an Irish guitar maker.
The digital backdrop was simply awesome.
Featuring Lee Hom as a comic book superhero nevertheless.
Move over world superheroes, here comes the Music Man...
...on Green Goblin's flier???
Lee Hom certainly looking the part.
The Music Man was soon electrifying the audience with his tunes.
We could do with a few more superheroes like him.
Every little grin sent the audience into a frenzy.
Music Man with the weapon of his choice - "The Bahamut".
"Who let the Dragons out!!! Whoo! Whoo! Whoo!" No, he didn't borrow it from the Bahamein.
Not a dull moment with Lee Hom as he kicks up a storm on stage.
