The very first roadshow for the most anticipated 2013 Lunar New Year movie, Once Upon A Time, kicked off with a big bang on 1 December 2012 at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre. The cast members arrived on board Hyundai MPVs which has been specially decorated according to the theme of the movie accompanied by a spectacular lion dance performance. Jack Lim led the cast which included Gan Mei Yan, Wan Wai Fun, Royce Tan, Wen Kang, Siow Hui Mei, Susan Lankester, Alvin Chong, Catherine Ang, Jym Chong together with Director Silver, on stage and each of them had an introduction session on their characters in the movie. After which they played a game with the fans and ended with an autograph session.
The cast members then made their way to the Wrap Party held at The Lighthouse in Sunway Lagoon for a special party to thank the efforts of everyone who had a part in this movie. Those who attended the wrap party were treated to an exclusive preview of the “Once Upon A Time” full movie trailer and also the MV of the theme song “Fung Seong”, produced by Alex San and sung by 8 of the male artistes, Jack Lim, Jeff Chin, Jason Pang, Jym Chong, Alvin Chong, Bernard Hiew, Jiang Han and Royce Tan.
The total production cost for this movie is about RM 4.6 million which has surpassed their initial budget of RM 3 million and it took them only 21 days to complete filming. In total there were 39 artistes and about 1000 crew members who were involved in this movie . The magnificent 6000 years old palace which was specially built for the filming at a cost of RM 1 million was accidently burnt down recently. Some fireworks landed onto the building during a promotional launch of the housing development in that area. “We were all so sad and some of us even cried when we heard that news” said Jack Lim. However SP Setia group has agreed to rebuild a model of the palace and will be placed at Setia City Mall for the public to view during the Lunar New Year period.
“Once Upon A Time” is slated to be released on 7 February next year but this is not confirmed yet as due to FINAS’s (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) regulation which only allows 2 local movies to be released per week. The other two local movies slated for release on the same week are “The Wedding Diary 2” and “Kara King”. Jack Lim said “Well I don’t know what to do if it does not get to be released during this New Year period and I really hope that “Once Upon A Time” will be one of the 2 movies”. During the 2013 Lunar New Year period, “Once Upon A Time” will also be facing box office competition from Hong Kong film producers like Eric Tsang, Raymond Wong and Stephen Chow but Jack Lim is confident that his 100% Malaysian made movie will do well. Jack also mentioned that they will be doing 100 over road shows nationwide and investing in billboards to be placed all over to promote the movie.
Jack Lim has high expectations for this movie to break his record of RM 7.55 million for Ah Beng the Movie: Three Wishes, “We have been breaking records every year, started with RM 4.2 million for Tiger Woohoo in 2010 and then RM 6.5 million for Great Day in 2011”. This has been the most memorable movie for him and he is very thankful for the support from everyone, “Everyone is so committed and I am very touched with the amount of sweat and toil that each has to go through to make this a success”.
