There we were again, waiting at 9.30. This time i made it home after dinner and switched on the Astro and glanced at the time - 9.28pm. Close enough. I was going to be able to catch the show. I certainly did.
I feel for you, all my fellow readers, on how annoying the Ads can be. i was almost giving up waiting and decided to catch it on 8tv's website, when i heard "i wanna be a star he yeaaaa he yeaaaa", which made me reverse and park myself in the couch for one solid hour, after which, i'm here now.. writing this
First came Indra Putra, 16 years of age. This young lad is the eldest among his siblings, two, out of which, is less fortunate. My heart went out to him, being a mere 16 year old and having to be strong emotionally and to attend to the needs of his siblings. He had an average voice, though, occasionally a little pitching problems here and there, a well deserved yes. I hope he polishes up his voice and skills for the next round.
Up next was Aweera, 17, a.k.a The Rocker - He had a full package, a good image, dressed appropriately, a full complete set for a performer. I wasn't let down when I heard his voice too! it was a very nice rocker tone, very original, but rockers like him, in general, do not appeal to me. However, when he belted out his second song, it was AWESOME! A YES i will not deny. Hope to catch him soon again!
Shortly after that, came the "Compressed Yes Moments" which saw 7 contestants getting the ticket without hearing them sing. I hope they well deserve it. We will wait for next week.
What is Chinese New Year without an Orange? We got one to keep us in the mood. Ming Ming a.k.a Orange, 24, got THE ticket in. I somehow wasn't very fond of her voice, due to the over-vibratos. But according to Miss Jay from ANTM, it's easier to pull back from someone who over does it, than to bring it out of someone who doesn't have it I guess it could be applied here. Oh and what fantastic dance moves. She really amazed me
Girls, go organic on those masks, and compact powders. Better still, STOP using them! Unless, of course, the idea of worms all over your face does not bother you a bit! Yusof, 23, had a good voice, despite the idea of all the worms that kept flashing through my head as he sang, i could still notice the nice voice he had. But, as usual, it's not my thought that counts.
Through all this, I, FINALLY, managed to get ONE precious moment. The first for this episode. Uncle was amazed, and went all quiet when Afzan Azmi intimidated him (I think), being a weightlifting coach, and a gym instructor. If last week Syaf had a priceless expression moment, Uncle stole the cake away from her this week! Uncle's expression was.. PRICELESS!! haha!! Getting back to business, Afzan had quite a nasal voice, that didn't really appeal to neither my sister and I, nor the judges. Good try and keep up the weightlifting girl!! U RAWK!!
Time and time again, men who put up silly falsetto voice performances, never fail to show up. I personally despise, am not very fond of, and totally disagree to men (or boys, whichever applicable) who do falsetto!! First we have Khairul Idhzwan, 17. Then comes Shahrul Ahmad, 27. The irony of it all is, when Uncle critiques that he (Shahrul) was very feminine in the way he sang and should be more manly, he obviously, did not take the criticism, but instead, decided to say on camera that Uncle's criticism wasn't constructive. Errmmm, am i missing something here? Dude,
1. This is a singing competition to find the next SINGER
2. Please don't waste your time doing falsetto, unless of course, you are a self proclaimed Celine Dion, or Mariah Carey, which, i would know if u actually claim yourself to be.
Either way, it was bad. Take it and don't make the same mistakes again. Not only to you though. To every GUY out there, PLEASE, I BEG UNTO THEE, do not do falsettos. It does NOT sound appealing in ANY way. Thank you!
Now, where were we? Oh yea, back to the auditions, Ejad, 24, an actor by profession, did quite good. Though not a voice to die for, she was ok. Enough to qualify her to the next level.
This lady up next, has always caught my attention, when I had the chance to see a group picture at the penang auditions that were posted here some time ago. She definitely stood out of the crowd. Probably because i just loved loved loved loved her HAIR!! Some of my friends say that we're on the same league, thats probably why im in love with her hair! Which i totally wouldn't deny though. I would love to get there some day!! HAHA! Raja Farah (Tom) had quite a good voice. To me, it was great. She projected good image, good package, and someone who would fit into the genre of this competition. Natural, Fresh, and most importantly, ORIGINAL. Though yes, undeniably, she had a few moments where there were sudden outbursts of the original singer, but hey, this is just the auditions, you know. People will learn along the way and eventually develop their own style in due time. The way I look at it, this was a wasted voice that could draw more people to watch it just for her style. All the best to you girl, try again next season and make sure u kick some A's
This next lad, I have been eying him, waiting for him to come on, especially after the trailer Adverts that came on 8TV, promoting the new season. Yes, thats right, u know who i'm talking about!! Mr Adrea BROCCOLI! HAHA!! This was possibly the BEST MOMENT in OIAM S3, of course, after Check Chen AND Solehin Keane! His voice would have been okay, had it not sounded very made-up. I have to agree with Syaf that it sounded almost put up like a switchable mode. Mode A - Falah. Mode B - Andrea Broccoli. Try again next time, and try to make it more natural and original yea
As usual, amidst all the awful listening we have to bear with, there is always hope that the next person who walks in will make you fall off your chair, and sit in awe. I know I had that moment when i saw Elizabeth Chin. Despite her supercalifragilisticexpialidocious-ly THICK make up (or is she just naturally THAT fair, I don't know, I haven't met her before), she looked like a performer. I know this girl will go far. It's somehow very repetitive. We have Club singers coming and trashing the other hopefuls. Not that I am against it. Just a thought that crossed my mind. She had an amazing voice. I won't be surprised though, if she bagged this season. By far the best candidate in this whole season. I will keep a look-out for her
"Dude, that's lame" , "I don't think you have done justice to your talent" were the EXACT words that came out of Uncle's mouth when Ex-Idol finalist Saiful, 22, belted his song. Not much of a fan of him, am still not. I never personally paid much attention to him during MI and even now. Moral of the story children : ASSUMPTIONS THAT ALL RECORDING ARTISTES WILL GET THROUGH IS WRONG! haha! Here we have it proven
Last but not least, Guitarist and Lead Singer of one of the Malaysian Bands, NewBoyz, Tomok portrayed his own style, yet, the quality of his voice was displayed without the guitar accompaniment. Though he could use a little polish on his English pronunciation, his voice is, undeniably, good.
All in all, there were not many moments that was funny and interesting as Episode 1 last week, but i guess, the competition is at it's stake now. It is beginning to get more serious, and we can anticipate more emotions, more challenges, and no mercy from Uncle and Syaf.
We will catch the Top 80 in action next week, and I cannot wait! the wait is just too painful to bear as we get closer to the competition.
Bigger, Better and Tougher than before?
Hmm.. im starting to get a little bit convinced.
Just a little though.. maybe 9.99%
P/S : Sorry Mr Dragon, they did not show me auditioning
P/SS : I didn't see any of the 10 people who sat with me through the auditions either
PP/SS : I think I was too cute to be shown on cam hahah
~CHEERS MATE!~
