Part 1 - Scenes From KLPac Open Day (18/01/09)
The main KLPac building is itself a work of art.
The Open Day offered a whole lot of activities & things to appreciate & enjoy, such as the Iron Dragons of Malaya photo exhibition.
KLPac had more than enough helpers to keep us well informed on the goings on at their open day.
Even The Actors Studio's legendary co-founder & artistic director Joe Hasham was on hand to greet visitors.
Silat Cekak demo on the boardwork.
You don't want to mess with these guys.
Silat Cekak does not employ any evasive moves and is very forward in its approach.
It is very effective in close combat and in tight spaces...
Silat ...and does not employ dance like movements.
It is the largest school of silat in Malaysia.
Silat Cekak originated from Kedah during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin II...
...and is considered the most authentic form of silat for self defense.
Practioners showing off real world application of this effective martial art.
Members of the Persatuan Silat Cekap Pusaka Hanafi.
Pathway leading to the lawn.
Singer songwriter Izzi Mohamed was one of the early accoustic acts to perform on the Lawn.
Earlybirds at KLPac were treated to folksy melodies from Izzi.
Well, at least these two were. I guess it was a little too early for music lovers.
The bazaar was located in the Lawn and surrounded the accoustic showcase stage.
Meanwhile Insecure were performing an accoustic set of their own at the Boardwalk.
Insecure are under the Rock Unite label.
Rock Unite Records bosses capturing their artistes performances on video.
The squad from Persatuan Silat Cekap Pusaka Hanafi are a commanding lot.
KLPac's Open Day was a fantastic outing for everyone who turned up...
...young or old.
The KLPac's Sinfoneta performing at the lobby stage...
...giving many visitors their first taste of a symphony orchestra.
We are sure they won many new fans that day.
Many definitely lost their "virginities" that day.
At Pentas 1 (theatre) Datin Paduka Seri Endon Award winner Aris Kadir dance play was being performed.
Some of its provocative content had many newcomers to contemporary dance, blushing in excitement.
M'sian contemporary dance is coming of age but not all the segments excited us. But for sure the one with the "nasi kangkang" certainly did.
The exhibit that consists of costumes from past productions was very interesting.
We were not to sure how the lampshade was incorporated though.
The ultimate dress for the Ultimate Prom Night?
Maybe this one?
Exotic furnitures department? You certainly won't find these at Courts Mammoth or Ikea.
SYTYCD 1 & 2 contemporaries & fellow Aswara mates, Yuz & Raymond were enjoying the day.
What kind of monkey business is this?
It is certainly making us go bananas.
Move over Doraemon & Sin Chan...
...here come Metal, Minifanfan, Tutu5, Momo, Jin7474, Eostee & 38monkey from Hugo Gardens.
The best movies do not always turn up at our cinemas. Google Da Huang Pictures.
Guitar showcase by Yogaero Guitar Ensemble at Studio 5 on Level 3.
Pluck Dot Pick!!!
So many El Mariachi's.
KLPac had something for everyone. Even the structure offered endless possibilities.
If you were willing to see...
...things in a different way.
Music maestros Julian Mokhtar & Nan Blues showcasing their vast talents at the lobby.
Being a Dragon, i certainly had to check this out.
Meet Dragotron, my long lost uncle from a different era.
Another Rock Unite alumni, Sharin Band getting comfortable at the Boardwalk...
...while Rock Unite champs & VIMA "Guitar Goreng" award winners Nrocinu were standing by.
Actually he was not too keen on standing.
Rock Unite head honchos not missing a beat.
The bazaar was open...
...but it won't be busy until much later in the day.
For some it didn't really matter.
Goh Lee Kwang mixalogist extraordinaire was at the Lawn stage next...
...with his brand of experimental music.
Who says you need a guitar...
...to pull in the chicks.
The sound engineer was a bit surprised his tools of the trade could be used to produce music as well.
It was sunny enough a day to hang out the laundry.
Now, why didn't I notice this when I was taking the pic. Books at only RM 2 & RM 5. Aaargh!!!
How could we ever resist?
Vandalism tends to start at an early age these days. Ha! Ha!!
When this shark cage gets lowered into the lake, the ones on the deck will be used as bait.
"It doesn't matter who takes the pics, I am always ready with my pose."
Is this Mac cosmetics spring collection?
No lah, this is what happens when you are at Lingam's Flour Mills unsupervised.
Hey look!!! Its Marilyn Manson.
It was nice to see visitors getting involved in the The Butoh performance from Nyoba Kan.
For the uninitiated, Butoh is a eclectic art form originating from Japan...
...that involves playful and grotesque imagery, taboo topics, extreme or absurd environments, and is traditionally "performed" in white-body makeup with slow hyper-controlled motion.
We wonder what his girlfriend looks like?
Never ever leave him alone at Toys-R-Us.
The Butoh performance had everyone in the lobby rooted.
Important note: Add bleach ONLY to your washing, not your bath water.
He had more stage presence than the finalists at Miss World/Universe.
I am sure these mesmerised folk will agree.
The lobby was totally under siege by everyone who wanted to catch the slo mo action on stage.
The only thing that was not white on this guy was his hair and, ...his teeth.
I think he saw his future mother in law approaching.
Are those Feragamos?
Show off!!
After being in limbo for so long its time to Limbo.
"Butoh" originally comes from a discarded Japanese word meaning European Ballroom Dancing. We kid you not.
We think Michael Jackson should take up Butoh..
...especially since he would save a fortune on make up.
They were not going anywhere.
The show was so engaging that no space was left vacant.
I guess KLPac certainly achieved its goals of de-virginising the public.
As you would have it, every self respecting Butoh performer...
...would never be caught without polka dot boxers from Moschino, under his gown.
Instant celebrity.

Part 2 - Scenes From KLPac Open Day (18/01/09)
Winner of VIMA's Best Dance Song, Shruthi takes over the Boardwalk stage...
... with her melodic vocals and...
... her vibrant persona. And she is only 13.
Lee Swee Keong is the man behind Nyoba Kan.
Wondering what all these drums are for?
Find out from Bill Lewis here in a bit.
Its Rendra Zawawi & his friends turn to entertain the visitors at the Lawn.
Rendra is another singer songwriter that has a sizeable following in the acoustic scene.
The enthuastic audience showing their appreciation.
We bet he is a big time babe magnet.
Greek god looking Tony Leo here must be another big time babe magnet too, especially more so now with his lengthened curlies.
Talking about magnets, these guys were churning out a rather magnetic performance too.
If you can't beat them, just join them and have fun.
Peter for peace.
Young at heart songwriter Peter Brown spreading the message of love & tolerance.
Along with Markiza, his comrade in anti-arms.
Even though the keyboard was not functioning, Markiza kept her composure and vocally "plink plonked" her way.
The (literally) unplugged Markiza.
Nobody would have guessed there was no music actually coming out of the keyboard...
...as Markiaza & Peter dished out their signature treats.
Probably the coolest couple in the indie scene today.
The shopping picked up at the bazaar with the arrival of more visitors.
It was certainly a perfect day for these two lovelies.
While others were contended to stay in the shade.
KLPac was certainly a bit hit for the families...
...friends...
...and new acquitances.
More pics & story coming up. Stay tuned.
