A funny love story
“Marrying Mr Prefect” is the latest romantic comedy, written, produced and directed by Wong Jing, a prolific Hong Kong filmmaker. Wong possessed strong instincts for giving want the audience wants and he is often cited as the most consistently successful filmmaker in commercial terms in the Hong Kong cinema as well as one of its most critically reviled and controversial. He has done different kind of genres from broad comedy, martial arts, erotic thriller, gambling, gangsters, slapsticks and even parody. Wong has directed, produced or written over 175 films and occasionally acting in them as well.
This rom-com stars big names like Ronald Cheng, Gigi Leung, Chapman To, Eric Tsang, Sandra Ng and Stanley Fung. The story revolves around a rich playboy tycoon who found himself again after meeting his Ms Right. Winnie (Leung) is a normal working class girl in Beijing, who gets bullied by her colleagues and is deemed a spinster when she gets dumped by her boyfriend. Koo (Cheng) is a tycoon who is ruthless in his business dealings and a playboy. He has bought D.O.G’s China branch (where Winnie works) with the aim of selling all its valuable assets and laying off all its employees.
Before he leaves for Beijing, Koo causes Fai, one of his employees to lose a big fortune and refuses to help him. Furious, Fai threatens to kill himself and that he will hire a professional killer to murder Koo. This got Koo’s mother very worried for the safety of her son. Koo comes up with the idea of switching place with his assistant Ryan (To) since he never has his photo taken or attended any interviews by the media before. So Ryan becomes the new boss of D.O.G., while Koo acts as his bodyguard.
Koo and Winnie crossed path in Beijing. Winnie who is emotionally down after her breakup and Koo, who is on a hidden identity, in a time of remorse and shame makes a prefect couple. Koo finds that Winnie is the first woman who is not after his money and truly like him for himself. But will she be able to accept Koo’s true identity?
Cheng plays his role comfortably as the quirky and smart aleck who thinks that money can buy everything until he meets his Ms Right in the form of Leung who is the girl next door, demure and modest. Funnyman, Chapman To is in his usual comedic character and together with Eric Tsang, Sandra Ng and Stanley Fung, be prepared for a hilarious journey coupled with witty dialogues, of a funny love story. At the same time, do look out for a bevy of sexy beauties from China, they are the eye candies for the movie.
"Marrying Mr Prefect" is distributed by RAM Entertainment and opens on 22 March 2012.
