3X Trouble (M) (Opens 15/3/12)
The 3 buddies, Hai (Jack Lim), Tian (Rynn Lim) and San (Dai Yang Tian) in a dilemma on what to do next ...
3X Trouble is a locally produced dark comedy helmed by Hong Kong director, Patrick Lau. It stars our local artistes, Jack Lim, Rynn Lim, Andrew Tan, Gan Mei Yan, Aenie Wong, Wee Khing Meng, Tedd Chan, Lai Meng alongside with China’s Dai Yang Tian and Taiwan’s Landy Wen. This movie revolves around the lives of three good friends who make a living at a busy night market.
We have celebrity radio deejay, Jack Lim, fresh from his domestic box office hit, the lunar new year blockbuster, Ah Beng The Movie : Three Wishes, as Hai, a pirated DVD seller, singer songwriter Rynn Lim as Tian, a lingerie vendor and one of Mediacorp’s hottest star, Dai Yang Tian as San, a delivery man for an electrical shop. The movie marks the big screen debut of Malaysian singers Rynn Lim and Andrew Tan. Rynn composed a song for the movie titled Wrong Steps, while the theme song for 3X Trouble is the first collaboration between Jack and Dai, showcasing their singing and rapping talents.
Three bumbling buddies, a busy night market, a car theft gone wrong, a mysterious female (played by Landy Wen) in the car boot, a cold-blooded killer and put all these together, you will get a handful of trouble. The three buddies, Hai, Tian and San make their living at the bustling night market and on one faithful day, they got themselves trapped in a chain of events that would change their lives forever.
The three buddies have very different characters, Hai is flamboyant, hot-headed and greedy, Tian is timid and easily frighten and San is an honest and straightforward guy. Tian owes a lot of money to the loan sharks and he is also trying to get the custody for his son. After being convinced by Hai, the three of them decided to steal a car to get some money to make ends meet. After stealing the car, they discovered a woman who was still alive in the boot and they took her out of the boot and put her by the roadside. Thinking that was the end of her, they went to deliver the car but met with an accident along the way. So in the end they had to abort the plan. Meanwhile, the mysterious woman was found by San, seeing the dazed condition that she was in and being a good hearted guy, San brought her home. Both Hai and Tian were shocked to see her in San’s house.
All these while, all of them were being followed closely by the ruthless killer played by Andrew Tan. Looking cold and forlorn in his dark glasses, long black coat and a spider tattoo on his hand. He was hired to kill the mysterious woman and get a USB drive that contains information on a huge bank account. Landy Wen plays a dual role in this movie as she portrays a pair of twins which was separated since childhood. I’m impressed with Rynn Lim’s acting as he brought up his character very well, being a mild mannered and timid person, easily intimidated but yet at times can be very rude, cursing and swearing away. You would find his cursing dialogue one of the highlights and he does it so naturally. Go catch it at a cinema near you and get ready for suspense and drama in this wild journey of three close buddies, with lots of comical moments along the way.
3X Trouble is distributed by RAM Entertainment and opens simultaneously in Malaysia and Taiwan on March 15.
