Underoath Live In KL @ KL Live (10/3/12)
METAL MONSTERS GET INTIMATE WITH KL FANS

Underoath's lead singer Spencer Chamberlain gets tender on the mike.
It was really up close (literally) and personal at KL Live last Saturday night, 10th March, 2012, when Grammy nominated American metal/hardcore band Underoath paid Kuala Lumpur their very first visit here and found out that they were long overdue. Underoath lead singer Spencer Chamberlain was genuinely taken aback by the insane adulation and the unbridled energy shown by the non stop moshing fans who turned up to catch their heroes in action. So intense was the passion exhibited by the fans that the flexing barricades in front of the stage could not hold them back, and had to be removed (quick thinking by battle hardened organisers Jupiter Projects) even before the band could start on their third song. A little praise for metal fans. They are certainly a decent lot despite their charged up mood, as they waited patiently until the barricades were removed before surging forward gentlemanly towards the tip of the stage, before releasing their raw energy, with every wave of metal mayhem discharged towards them. It looked like waves were crashing unto the shoreline, in time with the chugging notes that were being expelled by the frenetic six on stage. Although the band only dispensed thirteen tracks throughout their seventy five minutes set, everyone who attended will swear under oath that it was the best seventy five minutes ever.
Wave after wave they surged forward.
Credit has to be given to the opening acts as well for working the concert goers up to speed. Ampang based post hardcore unit Tres Empre got the ball rolling with their blend of rhythmic guitars and catchy melodies, rolled in with lots of over enthusiasm on stage. This was followed by Japanese screamo band 2Side1BRAIN from Okinawa, whose furious outbursts, commanding guitar work and outstanding stagecraft that included perfectly synchronised rabbit hops and running men moves, had the audience eating out of their hands and clamouring for more. Lead vocalist Shun Shuntarock simply could not be contained as he whisked himself from end to end, stirring up the crowd into a frenzy and setting the pace for the next band on stage. Its a quite a surprise that this is the band's first visit to KL. Hopefully it will not be the last. (Hint! Hint! Jupiter Projects). 2Side1BRAIN will also be opening for American metalcore/pop punk band A Day To Remember in Singapore, tonight, 12th March 2012.
Before long it was time for everyone's favourite rockers Wing Meng, Kevin Kong, Syarul Reza and Jana Nair, who are better known as Love Me Butch, to ply their trade. And from the moment Wing Meng's pick hit his six stringer, and Sharul's mighty growl extended way back into the concert hall, everyone knew who the all time heavyweights of Malaysian hardcore were. It was simply a no nonsense no frills display of might and hard hitting energy, delivered with precision and purity. So intense was their performance that even 2SideIBRAIN's Shun came out of the dressing room to ride the waves of fans that were enjoying every bit of it.
