Anugerah Industri Muzik Ke 15 (AIM 15) 2008
Anugerah Industri Muzik Ke 15 (AIM 15) 2008 will once again take centrestage as Malaysia's premier awards show (ala the Grammies), this Saturday May 3rd at the Putra World Trade Centre, and will be attended by the who's who in the Malaysian music industry. Organised by the Persatuan Akademi Industri Muzik Malaysia, under the firm leadership of its general manager and industry veteran Jennifer L. Thompson, AIM 15 is set to feature a star studded line up of performers, presenters & award nominees. This year's awards will again be hosted by returnees, vocal powerhouse Adibah Noor & actor-comic Adflin Shauki (but without Bob Luqman), and will be broadcast live over NTV7 and official radio stations Hot FM & Fly FM from 9pm. The red carpet (or in AIM's case ¨C blue) segment will be hosted by popular radio presenter Kartinie, and will be screened live prior to the start of the extravaganza.
This year's line up of solo performers will include industry heavyweights Dato¡¯Siti Nurhaliza, Anuar Zain, Mawi, Rahim Maarof, Dayang Nurfaizah, Hazami, and newcomers Faizal Tahir, Suki Low, Atilia, Fiq (Mentor), Dafi & Karen Kong. The bands that will be performing this year are award winning indie bands Pop Shuvit & Estranged, along with (and for the first time in the history of AIM) Tamil language hip hop group BoomerangX. Expect a brilliant showcase as they will also be accompanied by a live professional orchestra under the stewardship of renowned music director Aubrey Suwito
The presenters this year include Datin Juli Sudiro, Daniel Lee, Alif Aziz, Diddy, Dr Fazley, Elyana, Farawahida, Mila, Pete Teo, Sohaimi Mior Hassan, Sean Ghazi, Anne & Kartini from Hot FM, Ben from Fly FM and ESPN commentator & former national soccer star Serbegeth ¡°Shebby¡± Singh.
Among the hotly contested awards will be the ones for the Album of the Year, The Song of the Year, Best Vocal Performance - Female & Male in an Album and Best New Artiste. Hot newcomer and Anugerah Planet Muzik 2008 double winner Faizal Tahir looks destined to grab several of the awards (if not all of the six that he has been nominated for), including Song of The Year for Mahakarya Cinta & Album of the Year for Aku.Muzik.Kamu. He also looks good for the Best Vocal Performance ¨C Male & Best Newcomer of the Year awards, although Estranged might just steal the newcomer award from under his Superman baring chest.
I am seriously at a lost at how Doeramon voiced Karen Kong managed to find herself in the Best Female Vocalist category alongside much stronger peers, which may eventually be won by Atilia if not Dato¡¯Siti Nurhaliza. I am also equally surprised to see her in the Best Newcomer category as well. Noticeably absent from both these categories and definitely a more obvious candidate would have been Farah Asyikin who bagged the Best Newcomer ¨C Female award at the regional Anugerah Planet Music 2008 only a few weeks back. It's also very surprising that her knockout debut album & certifiable winner has not been nominated for Pop Album of the Year. It really makes one wonder about the selection process of the Akademi.
An interesting thing to note in this year's AIM awards is the rise of producer-songwriter extraordinaire Audi Mok who seems to be nominated in quite a few categories and even several times within a single category. Audi finds himself vying for the Song of the Year as the composer for Mahakarya Cinta and as co-producer for Rock Album of the Year for Aku.Muzik.Kamu, as well as being one of the co-producers for Local English Album of the Year for Melissa Indot's Eclecticism. But the most amazing thing is, he finds himself being nominated as co-producer for 4 different albums in Pop Album of the Year. Audi is certainly one hard working dude and will deservedly walk away with at least one award if not for all categories that he is nominated for.
Here is a list of key categories and our predictions:

2. Estranged
3. Atilia
4. Kaer Azami

2. Kris Dayanti ¨C I¡¯m Sorry Goodbye
3. Rossa ¨C Terlalu Cinta
4. Ungu ¨C Kekasih Gelapku
5. Kerispatih ¨C Tapi Bukan Aku
Our predictions: It's between Kekasih Gelapku and 11 Januari. Gigi will probably grab it.
And everyone here at Rentak Sejuta unanimously & strongly believes that the Album of the Year should undoubtedly go to Faizal Tahir's Aku.Muzik.Kamu.
