Showdown Top 7 (Episode 10) @ i-City, Shah Alam (8/6/11)
RESPECT RETURNS ...THEN GETS ELIMINATED
Story & Photos: Dragon
We can get a little hot headed but we are friends again.
RESPECT must be a real cheap word. It gets bandied about so easily among the street dance crews, then gets quickly dispelled with, once things do not go in their favour. Just two weeks ago, two of the strongest b-boy crews in the competition, showed us how little respect they really had for their fellow competitors and also their fans, when they tried to get heavy handed with each other, which earned both crews, the attending live audience's immediate and roaring displeasure.
To make amends for their rash and unbecoming behaviour, both crews reached out to each other in a more gentlemanly manner this week, when they had to once again face each other in the bottom four elimination battles. It was a real pleasure to watch both crews showing more humility and restraint, yet giving their very b-boy best on the dance floor, letting their strong individual skills instead of their temperamental heads, to lead the way.
But that regained respect was short lived when the loosing battlers returned to the elimination segment with their bags already packed, in a petty attempt at mocking the judges, before the verdict could be delivered. The dissatisfied crew went on to thrash the judges, the competition format, and even the top crews who were doing better than them in the competition, at the press Q&A session that was held after the show. The disappointed crew may have had every right to vent their frustrations, but when they start insulting others, instead of understanding and eradicating their own shortcomings, it crosses a line. Force 136 may have been shown the exit, but it was RESPECT that seems to have been eliminated from the competition.
