Lee DeWyze Showcase @ Subang Parade (17/5/11)
AMERICAN IDOL 9 WINNER "LIVE(S) IT UP" AT SUBANG PARADE
Story: Anastasia Photos: Dragon
Everytime host Serena C opened her mouth and said something about Lee DeWyze, the entire west wing of Subang Parade exploded with deafening screams from fans who had already gathered there by noon. And by the time Lee took to the stage just past 4pm, yesterday evening, many ears would have been ringing from the extreme adulation shown to the ninth American Idol by all present.
The 26 year old DeWyze who is the third idol winner to set foot in Malaysia, was here on his album promo tour, which was presented by Star World and supported by Sony Music Malaysia. A native of Mount Prospectt, Illinois, the candid DeWyze who is a self taught musician certainly didn't disappoint the fans at his showcase as he got them to "Live It Up" with a flaming seven song set, that included his first single "Sweet Serendipity" and his current release "Beautiful Like You". DeWyze, who started singing and playing the guitar in his teens, was the only male contestant never to land in the bottom three during season 9 of American Idol, and is the first Idol winner to have writing credit on a first single.
It was clear that the earth would not stand still, at least at the west wing, when the raspy voiced guitar toting singer opened with what else but "Earth Stood Still", followed furiously by his debut album's title track "Live It Up". Even a temperamental monitor did not unfaze DeWyze, as he let his penetrating vocals soar through the mall with bludgeoning precision, much to the delight of the appreciative fans who soaked it all up. By the time he concluded his set with an inspirational rendition of "Hallilujah" followed by a rousing encore of his debut single, most of us were left wanting for more. If anyone had any doubts to DeWyze 's claim to the world's most prized talent show mantle, it would have been summarily dismissed midway through his local debut.
A few hundred lucky fans also got to meet the idol in person and have their albums autographed during the two hour long session, which was well received by everyone. The best part of it all, our Chief Editor, who was the only one in an official American Idol tee, managed to get it autographed by the singer. The tee will be soon be framed and mounted in Rentak Sejuta's office. Woohoo!!!
American Idol 10, the #1 show on US television, can be watched on Star World on Astro. "Live It Up" is already available in music stores nationwide.
Set List
1. Earth Stood Still
2. Live It Up
3. Pretty Eyes (new song)
4. Dear Isabelle
5. Beautiful Like You
6. Hallelujah
7. Sweet Serendipity
Full photo collection coming up.
