8TV Banned From Showing Live And Delayed Telecast Concerts
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Private television station 8TV has been banned from showing live and delayed telecast concerts and all entertainment programmes for three months.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) also says that it will not approve any applications by other television stations for live or delayed telecast involving artiste Faizal Tahir for three months.
MCMC Corporate Communication Department Director Muhamad Tahir Muhamad Noor said in a statement Friday that both rulings took effect from Jan 15 and were made following an investigation into the live "Rockin Birthday Concert" that was shown by 8TV on Jan 13.
He said 8TV had been found to have failed to comply with conditions for a live and delayed telecast.
"The commission finds that the artiste's act of removing his clothes during the concert is something done with intent without thinking of the sentiments and sensitivities of the viewers and noble values of the people in the country.
"It is a serious offence in a live programme," he said.
Muhamad Tahir said that following this, the commission had immediately revoked the approvals given for live and delayed telecasts of concerts and entertainment programmes on 8TV.
However, pre-recorded and non-live programmes involving artistes approved by the Film Censorship Board were allowed to be shown, he said.
During the "Rockin Birthday Concert", Faizal who is formerly a member of nasyid group Mirwana, took off his shirt, exposing his body painted with an "S" in red.
