Colourama 2010 @ One Cafe, Jln Tunku Abdul Rahman, KL (9/10/10)
When: 2:00pm, Saturday, 9th October 2010
Back for the second time, Colourama celebrates the best and brightest from the realm of chip music and its related disciplines. The festival highlights the use of former heavyweights of personal computing such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga, the Atari ST and 2600, and the Nintendo Entertainment System, as well as the Game Boy, to create arresting music and visual art. Colourama is also a platform for chiptune musicians, both local and international, to exchange ideas and show their capability as artistes.
This event was and still is the platform for chiptune music, the first and still the only one in Malaysia but done at an international standard. Not only will it feature the local heroes but also our regional and international comrades too! Colourama is not just a place to exchange ideas between musicians but an avenue to expose this kind of music, no matter how niche it is, to newer audiences.
Colourama has always been about combining music and visuals to give the audience an euphoric experience that intertwines both nostalgic and fresh feelings. It is after all based on the hey days of the 8bit era (1982 – 1990). The love for all things 8bit, from the games to its sub culture extends to the realisation of this event.
Colourama is a major annual Chiptune music festival, the first ever to be held in Malaysia and of international standards, similar to Blip Fest ( New York and Tokyo), Pesta Mikro (Indonesia) and Pocket Music (Australia). Colourama not only explores the local and global chiptune scenes, but also electro music and bedroom music. People who play and loves music from Gameboy or Atari, or other 90s games will feel nostalgic of their childhood memories at this event. This is certainly is not a typical gig with typical music. People will get the chance to experience a very different genre of music and will soon be immersed in this new subculture that has been around for ages in other countries.
Colourama is only held once in 2 years! It will be the second time, this year! There will be Low-Fi live visuals presented during this event, a collaboration between Motiofixo and Dancing Bears Project who are among the best visual artists in Malaysia!
Colourama will also feature 15 artistes from 4 countries; Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and France, and is presented by Chip Chip Hurray Community.

The Dramatic
The Dramatic are, in their own words, a KL-based “electro/powerpop/electronic” outfit with an absessive affinity for peppering their songs with chiptune is essentially synthesised sound associated with anachronistic video games like Gameboy or Atari.
The Theatrics of the band’s conception are on full display on propulsive. danceable gems like ‘Cinta Frekuansi”-an urgently squelching, blipping, epileptic piece of pop smithery that bodes well for the niche they are looking to hack in the immediate indie scene. ‘Satu Kata” sees them segueing into New Order-like balladry-replete with stephem Morrisesque one-two drum tap fills and a chorus that begs for sing-along. Paramount on their priority list now is the recording of thier debut EP.
