Many of us here use digital cameras & digital music players when we are out & about. Great things these but they are also power hungry and they really eat into our budgets, when we have to replace batteries for them.
Walk into any store, and you will end up paying more than RM 10 (4-Pack) for descent alkaline batteries i.e. Energiser, Duracell or even Panasonic.
As a conservative consumer, I have surveyed and found out that I can get equally descent batteries for a lot lot less.
Please note that all batteries mentioned below are ALKALINE cells.
1. IKEA Alkaline (10-Pack) RM 5.90 at IKEA, Damansara Mutiara.
2. Sanyo Alkaline (4-Pack) RM 3.90 at any Mydin outlets.
3. Fujitsu Alkaline (4-Pack) RM 4.00 ay any Mydin outlets.
All the above batteries last just as long as a Energiser or more.
4. 1 Alkaline (8-Pack) RM 5.90 at any Carrefour.
These don't last as long as the above ones but are generally good enough.
5. Tesco Hi-Tech Alkaline (4-Pack) RM 1.89
These are the cheapest, but I havent tested them as yet. Will know by tonight whether they last long enough. But Tesco's house brands are know for their quality.
Another important thing to note about Alkaline cells, is that they all can be reused even if they seem drained. Take them out from your cams, leave them for a while, and they are probably good for another 20 shots, less with a flash. You can also do another cycle, if you desire. So far I have managed the maximum out of the IKEAs. Fujitsus & Sanyo's.
Don't throw away your used Alkaline cells just yet, you can still reuse them in small clocks or remotes after that.
My favourite at this point and will recommend highly are the IKEAs. Just too good a value. I wonder whether the Tesco Hi Tech's will match up.
Also another point to note. One day i was no where near my favourite battery suppliers, but somehow managed to find, some China made ones in a photo studio for only RM 3.60 (4-Pack). they were called Singa Alkaline and lasted pretty long too. Which was a big surprise to me. I can't seem to find them anywhere anymore.
I hope this guide will help you guys save some cash.
