Noor Syasya Afiqah Shahrizal, 23, popularly known as Syasya, the youngest member of the all-female M-pop group DOLLA, has decided to withdraw as a member of the group due to personal reasons.
DOLLA was formed by Universal Music Malaysia in 2019, debuting on the local music scene with their first single, ‘DOLLA Make You Wanna’, released on 20th March 2020. DOLLA has since released six studio singles, including ‘Impikan’, ‘BAD’, and the sensational global hit 'Damelo'. They also released their 8-track ‘New Classic’ mini album last November. DOLLA has been the recipient of several awards and accolades during the span of their career so far, including the ‘Most Popular Group/Duo’ (Top Meletop Kumpulan/Duo) at Anugerah Meletop Era 2021, ‘Most Popular Group/Collaboration’ (Kolaborasi/Artis Berkumpulan Popular) at the 35th Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH35) and Lagu Trending Tergempak and Video Muzik Tergempak at the Gempak Most Wanted Awards 2023.
“Although we receive this news with a heavy heart, we respect Syasya’s decision, and continue to wish her the best in her journey,” expressed Kim Lim, the Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia.
“Moving forward, the remaining members of the group - Angel, Sabronzo, and Tabby - will continue DOLLA’s career, maintaining our focus on both the domestic and international fans. We have made several plans to grow DOLLA’s career in the Southeast Asian market, and we will continue to work towards accomplishing our goal," added Kim.
Total strangers before DOLLA was formed, the four have since become fast friends and consider each other as family.
“This situation saddens us, but as a group, we support Syasya in her decision and remain here for her,” shared Tabby. “The bond we have built over the years of our career is strong, and we continue to see Syasya as our family,” added Angel, summarising the friendship between the members of DOLLA.
“The three of us are committed to continue DOLLA’s path and achievements and will continue working hard. We hope that we can continue to make everyone proud,” concluded Sabronzo, on DOLLA’s future plans.
In March 2024, DOLLA was chosen to represent Malaysia in the Chinese reality show ‘Show It All’, produced by Lay Zhang, a member of the superstar K-pop group EXO. The show features several girl groups worldwide as guests and is currently airing on MangoTV, one of China’s main television broadcasters. Universal Music Malaysia hopes for the continuing support of DOLLA’s fans and members of the media, and thanks everyone for the support shown so far over the course of their career.
Universal Music Malaysia has yet to comment on whether a new member will be added to the group in the near future, or whether they will remain as a trio.
