Lockdown Listen Day 54 (05/09/2021)
Our CD player had quite a workout once again on Day 54 of Lockdown Listen yesterday:
95. Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra - Small World Big Band Volume 2: More Friends (Warner)
96. Luke Sital-Singh - The Fire Inside (Parlaphone)
97. Austin Mahone - The Secret (Chase/Republic)
98. Rob Thomas - The Great Unknown (Atlantic/Warner)
Its just incredible how Jools Holland and his amazing orchestra take old tunes and breath new life into them with contemporary acts of the day by taking them out of their element to create more magic with these already excellent numbers. Listen to truly appreciate this album which was released in 2002.
Until yesterday we had never heard of British singer-songwriiter Luke Sital-Singh although his debut album, still shrink wrapped, has been with us since 2014, hidden under piles of other CDs in our voluminous collection. We felt a little sad that we had missed listening to and enjoying this incredibly talented act of Punjabi decent for the last seven years. His "The Fire Inside" is truly a scorching hot album that deserves everyone's attention and appreciation. It simply blew us away. One of the best records we heard in the last 10 years, still fresh today as it would have been back then. Nearly all of the tracks on this album deserves a spot on the top 10 of any music charts including a few number ones. If you like us, let him slide under your radar, hurry up and get this album and the rest of his albums rightaway. It's just a click away. We are now die hard fans, even though we are seven years late.
Austin Mahone is like a one man boy band, almost like a mature voiced Justin Bieber. His "The Secret", also released in 2014, is a raging pop EP that enjoys a sleek K-Pop like production treatment and is a mixture of pop, R&B, electronic dance and 1990s boy band. Austin is definitely a credible act who should have deserved more attention, but was sadly dropped by his label, but this hasn't stopped him from producing music on his own. After all he did start as a successful YouTube act.
"The Great Unknown", released in 2015, is a credible but unsurprising, third solo album by Matchbox Twenty's lead singer Rob Thomas. You will enjoy but won't be rattled by it.
Experience these albums by locating them from popular streaming or dowloas sites.
