TAS Academy At KLPAC: Teacher Workshop & School Holiday Programmes (17 July 2021 On wards)
Kill Lockdown Boredom With The Actors Studio Academy @ klpac’s Teacher Workshop & School Holiday Programmes
If you are stuck at home wondering what to do - The Actors Studio Academy @ klpac is rolling out a workshop for English and Drama teachers as well as a series of school
holiday programmes for those aged 4 to 25 starting this weekend.
Like it or not, online learning is here to stay! That’s why klpac has designed this unique one-day only workshop “How to Teach Creatively Online” for English and Drama teachers on 17 July from 10am to 12pm. Part of klpac’s Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund to #saveklpac, the Zoom workshop will be led by Mark Beau de Silva who is The Actors Studio’s Writer / Director in-Residence and a Senior Lecturer at Taylor’s University’s Bachelor of Performing Arts programme.
Comprising three main components: speech, reading & comprehension and writing, Mark will be sharing his creative online teaching methodologies and ideas on connecting with young people to enhance students' learning and developing skills using technology & drama from their homes, and with a whole lot of imagination.
A multi-award winning writer and director, Mark has almost two decades of experience teaching English & drama. He was the top 5 finalist in the Rise Educator Award 2021 and won the Silver Award for EMAS during Taylor's 13th Teaching & Learning Conference. For his dedicated work to the young people, Mark was named The Edge Inspiring Young Leader (Arts) in 2019, the only one of 12 recipients from the performing arts.
With another round of lockdown school holidays, let your children laugh, move and have fun with TAS Academy @ klpac. There are five specialised programmes for those aged 4 and above which will encompass storytelling, writing, reading, acting, poetry, and devising.
Kicking off the School Holiday programme will be two 5-day workshops “Storytelling for Little Storytellers” with Teacher Adam Hamizan (7 - 12 years old) and “Musical Mischief” with Teacher Phraveen (13 - 18 years old) from 19 - 23 June.
Storytelling is more than just reading the words of a story out loud. In “Storytelling for Little Storytellers”, Teacher Adam, who is an actor and Speech & Drama teacher, will be
taking students through the A-Zs of storytelling from the types of stories told, to how to express it in writing, and finally telling and bringing to life these brilliant new stories.
If your kids love musicals, then “Musical Mischief” may be more their cup of tea. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of musical theatre – voice work, breath, giving meaning to lyrics – and explore the joys of musical performance. Teacher Phraveen is an award-winning actor and singer (Best Supporting Actor in Musical Theatre, BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2020) who was seen most recently in the short film 'Operation Maybe' for Julie's Biscuits and 'Titoudao' by Mediacorp Singapore.
If they are looking for an adventure, parents can look out for Vicky Ang’s “Journey into the Caves of Wonder!” from 26 - 30 July and “Let’s Explore the Woodlands!” from 2 - 6 August, both programmes are aimed for kids aged 4 - 6 years.
