8TV Gets Malaysians Up On Their Feet!
Petaling Jaya, 7 March 2007 ¡V 8TV, the network that is responsible for introducing Malaysians to groundbreaking talent shows such as super-hit One In A Million, Project Superstar and I Wanna Be A Model, is once again by presenting a new reality show like no other - So You Think You Can Dance!
A breath of fresh air from the numerous singing talent shows now available in abundance on Malaysian TV, So You Think You Can Dance, true to its premise, is a dance talent quest among Malaysian hopefuls who wish for a shot at stardom.
Based on the popular American version of So You Think You Can Dance, the localized version is set for its TV debut in April while auditions for the Best dancers in Malaysia will kick off on 16th & 17th March.
8TV¡¦s General Manager of Business Development, Marketing and Communication, Ms. Lam Swee Kim explains, ¡§So You Think You Can Dance is a reality talent show that introduces the Best dancers in Malaysia and relates to his or her struggle in order to make their dreams come true. It also enables 8TV to act as a medium providing the platform for the hopefuls to shine and be discovered.
¡§Prior to this, Malaysian dancers have had international recognition but 8TV is here to help discover more unpolished gems¡¨
¡§In the coming months, this series will uncover a large hidden talent pool of highly talented dancers. That is why we are inviting everyone who thinks they have the right talent to come forward and be part of this exciting show. Everybody has the potential of becoming a star!¡¨
Kim is confident that the localized version will enjoy similar success when the program makes its debut next month.
Auditions will commence on 16th and 17th of March in search of Malaysia¡¦s Best dancers. The two-day casting sessions will take place at Panggung Bandaraya, Kuala Lumpur from 9am to 3pm. It is open to all Malaysians (male and female) aged between 18 and 30.
The short-listed participants will be sent to a ¡¥Dance Boot Camp¡¦ for 2 days. Here, the contestants will learn various dances such as hip-hop, ballroom, traditional, contemporary and many more. Only the Best dancers who are able to master the techniques in a short time will move on to the next round.
Viewers will then get to see weekly LIVE performances and eliminations. These ¡§LIVE shows¡¨ will kick off the selection process for the Top 20 Dancers (10 females and 10 males) with a pair being eliminated every week. There will be a total of 14 episodes for this season including the final LIVE episode.
