The Get Up Kids @ The Bee, Publika, Jalan Dutamas 1, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur (2/10/19)
Legends are those who inspire others to follow in their footsteps and move further in that pathway. That is who the The Get Up Kids are to other younger bands – a group of regular guys from Kansas City, who have helped shape the emo, indie and alternative rock music genre, otherwise known as the "second wave" of emo music. It has been three years since the last time the American rock band was in Malaysia and The Bee will be hosting them once again for another round of their unique blend of alternative rock and pop punk for us!
Setting in place the norms for 21st Century emo music, The Get Up Kids is reputable for their punk scene with emo influence in the mid-1990s. With several popular albums to their name, such as ‘Something to Write Home About’, ‘On a Wire’ and ‘There are Rules’, the band created a huge impact on the ‘adult emo’ scene especially with the release of their first reunion album in 2011 titled ‘Kicker’.
Gaining popularity in the early 2000s, The Get Up Kids performed with renown bands such as Green Day. Weezer, Hot Rod Circuit, The Anniversary and many more while touring Japan, Europe and Australia for three years. The Get Up Kids are also known as the founders of the Heroes and Villians Records, a platform for several side projects like The New Amsterdams and Reggie and the Full Effect.
Having worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Peter Katis, The Get Up Kids dropped their first full-length album after 8 years - Problems, it is to no one’s surprise, they’ve still got it. From soft acoustic guitar riffs to anthemic choruses that's reminiscent of '90s pop punk and lyrics about feeling anxious and isolated even in a crowded room, The Get Up Kids have a talent for writing catchy and infectious hooks and choruses and it's what has kept them on the map for over two decades. Both old and newer fans will find songs they enjoy and hopefully never stop listening to.
