Tonight I have fallen in love all over again ….. with Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock more popularly known as “Air Supply”.
The duo was in The Arena of Stars for their “ENCORE” 2009 Live In Malaysia concert on 4 October 2009. They sang to a full house of roaring crowd of different age groups, genders and race. They were still doing sound checks just before 8:00 pm and so there was a slight delay but all in all it was well worth waiting for. Rusell told the crowd that they just flew in from Manila this morning and they did 4 shows in 3 countries over 5 days.
Eric Lim was the guest artiste who kicked off the concert with 2 songs, Somewhere over the rainbow and My Way. He did a pretty good job and his vocals were quite powerful with good pronunciation. Eric said that Air Supply has given him a lot of inspiration in his life and he is very happy to be opening the show for them.
Air Supply started the show with “Even the Nights” with immaculate vocals and full of energy, what a great start! My favourite song from them is “Here I am” and they did it with so much feelings and that was the moment that I fell in love all over again as memories with this song from yesteryear came rushing back. I have so many sweet memories of their songs and I was proud of myself that I could still remember most of the lyrics (so did most of the audiences as everyone could sing along with most of their songs!)
Graham introduced his pianist to us, Frankie Marino, and Frankie showed his talents to us by very creatively playing a medley of songs on his keyboard. Graham informed the audience that their new album will be coming out in a few weeks’ time. A young couple has requested Graham to write a song for their wedding. On their wedding night, both of them danced happily and everyone could see that they were so much in love but it happened that it was the last night for them together as the husband did not come home. Graham said that he is glad that he wrote the music first and now the lyrics have taken on a whole new meaning. The wife said to Graham if only she could have a little bit more …. and that is the title of his latest song “ A little bit more” which was a very touching and meaningful piece.
Graham and Russell worked their way down from the stage as they sang “The one that you love”, with Russell coming down from the right side and Graham from the left side. Both began a trek though the audience and this made everyone excited as they could be up close with their stars and cameras were clicking away. They made their way back to the stage and asked everyone to sing with them “Here I am the one that you love ….” and everyone was in unison.
Air Supply closed the show with “Making Love Out of Nothing At All” and got everyone shouting for encore which they gladly obliged by coming back out with “Me Like You” and last but not least “All out of love”.
The only disappointment was that the concert was too short, they did only 16 songs in total. They came, they sang and they conquered our hearts, now and forever. They are still the best when it comes to sentimental love songs and it got me wanting for more.
On an ending note, I would like to especially mention that Star Planet rocks!!! A word of thanks and appreciation to all of them especially, Carmen & Tracy, for their warm attention and great hospitality. Kudos …..
