MOVIE JV MOU SIGNING BETWEEN MEGA VISUAL & TIMES PRODUCTION FOR ADMIRAL

An international movie titled Admiral, a joint-venture between two production companies from Malaysia and Hong Kong which have signed a MOU at Sheraton Hotel, Kowloon Hong Kong recently.
It is an epic action-packed thriller with attributes of historical elements from the 15th century kingdom of Malacca and a story which showcases the heroic ancient explorers, Admiral Cheng Ho and warrior Prince Megat Iskandar. Their values of trust and friendship made Malacca the most sought after trading hub in the region which attracted the Portuguese, French and British merchants.
An international 120 minute feature film production valued at RM50million will be filmed in several locations including China, Vietnam, Thailand and also Malacca which is the main location and movie town for this movie set-up which will contain a life-size replica of Cheng Ho's Treasure Fleet. This movie has also gained full support from the state Chief Minister and state government of Malacca that will boost the state tourism industry. It will also be the location spot for a great maritime kingdom international movie town.
A unique and mutually beneficial joint production, this movie and movie town has gained the full support from the Malaysian government. Together with National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas), the project is seen as possessing nation-building elements for the country.
The MOU was witnessed by our honorary guest, the Minister of Communications & Multimedia of Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, at the signing ceremony in Hong Kong. The Minister had quoted that “We are proud that the private sectors of Malaysia and China have taken the lead to develop this epic movie. Just as it was during the glorious age of Melaka in the 15th century, this joint enterprise will be a symbolic bridge of trade, friendship and goodwill between two nations. ”
It is also expected to foster understanding and appreciation towards each other’s culture, and hopefully encourage more Chinese to visit Malaysia, especially the exciting Movie Town that will be built in Melaka."
The Minister was also accompanied by YB Dato’ Seri Azalina binti Othman Said, the Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas), who coincidentally also inspired and created the idea of this movie. She had quoted that “Admiral promotes strong values of trust and friendship between different backgrounds and cultures that are the key elements for nation-building especially in the context of our own country.”
Also present was Dato’ Kamil Othman, CEO of the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas) who said, "Finas will support the production of this movie as we hope that Admiral will be a new premier movie which will fulfill several of the elements needed towards our mission to enter for the Oscars.”
The movie producer, Tony Leung, who is CEO of Times Production, Hong Kong, said that "The story also focuses on our Malay warrior, Prince Megat Iskandar Shah, who was the heir to the Malacca throne. Through him, we would like to create a new martial arts hero for Malaysia, just like Hong Kong did with the legendary Bruce Lee.”
Lastly, as quoted by the co producer and film director, CL Hor who is also CEO of Mega Visual Malaysia, “The objective of the movie was to put Malacca back onto the international maritime Silk Road map, where it was once a great maritime kingdom in the Malay Archipelago. The movies also displays the spirit of unity and the values of friendship which can be shared with the young audiences of today in addition with action- packed entertainment”
Others who were present at the signing ceremony were Tengku Sirajuzzaman - Consul General of Malaysia to HongKong, and some other industry film personnel and artists.
Finally, everyone present showed great enthusiasm and excitement towards the presentation of this inspirational story written by John Richard Khoo and CL Hor. They also acknowledged the creative use of entertainment as a platform for the exchange of cultures between the two countries.
The event ended with our chairperson and executive producer, Paul Wong, CEO of Mega Group Malaysia, sharing a sentimental closing statement, “This is just the beginning of our film industry’s era that showcases our unique culture and arts, which we can share to international audiences globally via the entertainment industry".
