The founder and artistic director of Puduvai Sangeetha Laya Sruthi Organisation, he lectures at the Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam, an institution affiliated to the Pondicherry Central University.
Dance research and choreography Sheela Raghavan -Tan, a disciple of Vasantha Vedham (formerly of Kalakshetra, India), Natya Selvam Sri Ganesan (Student of KJ Sarasa), Sandhya and Kiran Subramaniam (India) and advanced training under R.
Vijayashri of Jaya Kalaniketan, India. (R. Vijayashri is an examiner for dance, for virtuoso or advanced (vidvat) levels held by the Karnataka State Government). She was voted best dancer in the Bharatanatyam category, at a National dance competition in 2002, with some 60 participants. Sheela has given numerous performances, has acted as a judge for dance competitions, and conducted workshops, including at the National Arts Academy (Akademi Seni Kebangsaan Malaysia), University of New York (summer programme) held in Bali. In December 2008, she was conferred the “Natya Vithagar” award in India. She was selected as one of the 4 Outstanding Women For 2007 by TV3 (Malaysian national television network) and an hour long documentary (“Kehidupan Bermakna Inspirasi Mu”) was shown over the network, featuring her efforts to promote classical dance.
Mahavidya Dance Theatre presents a third performance under its “DANCE A PRAYER” series, a multimedia presentation of dance theater, featuring Bharatanatyam and film projections. The performance is fully sub-titled in English to ensure that the audience is able to follow the sequence of each number. The highlight of this performance is the various tandavas (dances) of Shiva, the God of Dance, ranging from subtle, delicate movements to energetic, fast-paced footwork, set to the rhythm of five different percussion instruments.
