International Jazz Series - Matti Klein Trio (Germany) “Hands On Soul" @ Alexis Bistro Ampang, Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur (2 & 3/5/14)
When: 10.00pm, Friday & Saturday, 2nd & 3rd May, 2014
Having been inspired by the beauty and diversity of Malaysia during his recent two-month stay, internationally renowned pianist Matti Klein is happy to return with his up and coming band project “Hands on Soul”. A unique mix of soul and jazz is featured in groovy piano trio arrangements performed together with the young Berlin talents Niklas Lukassen and Juergen Meyer.
As a popular soloist and sideman in Berlin Matti Klein has had the pleasure to play with extraordinary musicians such as Nils Landgren, Ack Van Rooyen, Gunther Hampel and David T. Walker. He acted as musical director and played keys for the German release concerts of Brazilian soul jazz icon Ed Motta’s recent album “AOR”, followed by an international tour to renowned venues such as the Blue Note Tokyo and Ronnie Scott’s London. Other projects have been invited to international Jazz Festivals, such as the Leverkusener Jazztage (Germany), the Borneo Jazz Festival (Malaysia) as well as the World Forum on Music (Los Angeles).
Matti Klein is not only a brilliant piano player. Moreover the German magazine KEYBOARDS dedicated a fourpart workshop series to his Fender Rhodes Style.
This talent is featured on three Mo’ Blow albums. Nils Landgren produced “For Those About To Funk” (2011) and “Gimme The Boots” (2013) for the renowned label ACT Music. Further studio work as a pianist and/or arranger can be heard on Defne Sahin’s album “Yasamak”, from the series “JazzThing – Next Generation” as well as Herbert Groenemeyer’s album “Schiffsverkehr”.
In 2011/2012 he received a teaching assignment for directing the Big Band from the University of Berlin and Conservatory “Hanns Eisler” Jazz-Institute.
