Episode 6: Top 11 (OIAM 3 Live)
There won't be a full pre episode write up this week due to time constraints. The bottom line is some one will be eliminated today, and there will be many sore fans out there. It's a tough competition, and most of the contestants are on par, so the results could go any way this week. If you didn't vote or managed to lobby for more votes from everyone else, then there is probably very little reason to cry foul later.
My biggest concern is one of the better or more original voices may end up leaving the show prematurely, but I certainly hope I will be proven wrong.
Although they are among the top ranked contestants in our own ranking system, I am rather afraid and quite concerned that Amylea, Han & Simon, may just end up being our bottom three. This is just an educated guess based on the lack of visible fan support at the live shows and even here in this forum and in other popular sites, and talking to the many people out there on the streets, on how they perceive this competition so far.
Whatever the case, I could be completely off base with my speculation, although I have not been wrong that many times before.
So if you are reading this, and if you are a fan of any the top 12, and want to make sure they are going to be around, please do your part and not grumble later. You still have a few good hours left before the voting stops. Don't assume that the popular ones will be through, because they have a large fan base, cause everyone probably thinks the same and may neglect to vote, thinking these contestants already have enough people voting. It could be quite the contrary.
Anyway, I am off now to SP2. Enjoy the live show tonight, and drop us your comments after the show here. Cheers.

Martin Arul's Weekly Review
Well, let me start with saying how disappointed I am at this week’s episode. I’m disappointed beyond words. To kick things off, one of the good contestants and a very promising one, Amylea (Amy) was in the bottom three.
Let me just start with the show and we’ll progress from there. I’m not sure if this would be as long as my previous posts. Nevertheless, I will try.
The show started with the elimination of one contestant from the Top 12. I was very nervous at this point of the competition because we are not sure who would be the one to leave. I was certainly hoping the better ones do not leave just yet.
There have been so much of talk among us on the insecurity we seem to have that the bottom three could be anyone. The very first person of OIAM 3 to be placed in the Bottom 3 was Ayu. Not much of a surprise for me, but I was still a little bit shocked, considering the fact that she earned three stars from me last week. There were other much deserving competitors amongst them who were more appropriate for this spot Ayu was now in.
Up next was Amy. By now, I am very, very shocked. But like what we have been preaching this past week here at Rentak, everyone’s probably too comfortable knowing that she is already an established singer, hence ignoring the need for the votes.
When Pija’s name was called out, I was quite affirmed of the statement I just made. When we should be expecting the newcomers to be in the bottom 3, naturally, I think this has made us aware in some way that everyone should be responsible to vote regardless if the contestant you choose is already an established singer or not. There is clearly no point in blowing a trumpet around and proclaiming yourself to be a fan of a particular contestant when you do not take the initiative to vote. Some may argue that maybe Amy and Pija just weren’t their choices. Think of it. Two renowned and established singers, one a finalist from Akademi Fantasia, and another a Winner of Mentor. If they had the fans then, what happened to them now? If you, reading this, failed to carry out your duty this past week, it’s not too late now. You can still do your part now. I just hope that this episode has taught all of you a lesson. A really good one that is.
Back to the show, the very first contestant of OIAM 3 to leave was Ayu. It was sad. I was a wee bit disappointed. Then again, in comparison of all three standing out there, I would have picked her to leave too. No offence to her. I think she has a great voice, that is very unique, and last week, Uncle was in favor of her. But then again, it’s the votes that matter. We bid you farewell, and all success and a bright future ahead of you.
First up was Esther, belting out Mengenangmu. For some reason 8tv published her song as Better In Time, the number she belted last week. Fortunately for me, I have a resource who knows exactly what the name of the song was. The friend of hers to whom the song was dedicated to, Syikin, our very own Top 20 contestant. It was okay, though I am a wee bit disappointed comparing her performance last week which totally blew me away. The first part of the song was a little bit pitchy, but he redeemed herself towards the middle and ending of the song. Syaf and Salamiah Hassan (Guest Judge) thought it was nice. Syaf : Very rich, soulful, sexy and warm. Uncle on the other hand didn’t quite feel the song. I know I kinda felt it. I know she can give better. I know she has it. I know she will.
If Han blew me away last week with her powerful voice, it didn’t quite translate this week. The starting of the song was a bit unsure and shaky. Belting out Getaran Jiwa, it was a very tough song to carry. It needs a lot of proper voice throwing and confidence. The only part that I actually liked in the whole performance was the ending when it was smooth and clean. Uncle commented : “You’re one of the young competitors, but you sing like a 104 year old”
Knocking on Heavens Door was Simon’s pick this week. It started off pretty mellow and slow and halfway through it got more upbeat. There was a nice feel to the song. I have to agree with Syaf that when Simon sings, you can actually close your eyes and imagine it running on a CD. I have always been doing that. When u close your eyes and just listen to the song, you will be able to feel the song if the singer is doing a great job with the song itself. Try it next time, and let me know what you think. As for Simon’s performance, I think he did a really good job. He should take risks and go beyond his comfort zone and not be scared, as to what Salamiah mentioned. Let’s hope we see him shining again next week.
Nine was up next, belting out Berita Dari Rantau. This guy has a very high range of vocals, but it is not a very “fatty” tone. Like the Malays would say, the voice is not “berlemak” : the tone that is nice and soothing. No doubt he has a high range, some parts may appear to be a bit ‘shout-ey’. Neither was I, nor the judges, a fan of this performance. We will have to wait for next week to know the verdict.
Amy proved just how good she is at what she does. Belting out her self-written song, Akan Tiba, she showed versatility, and did a very good job on stage. It was very relaxed, easy listening, and a very nice number. Syaf : “it was very relaxed, yet ‘membara’” She did awesome and I really liked it.
I have been, for the past few times, writing here, been stressing that IF YOU CANNOT CARRY A SONG WELL, DO NOT SING IT. One of my favorite song was trashed this week. My Way by Rizu was bad. My Way is a soft yet strong and soulful song. Vibratos DO NOT work with this song. One thing that I have been noticing with this dude is that whenever he sings, he has an uncontrollable vibrato in his voice. It may work well for some songs, but generally they don’t work. Coming from a choir background (yes, that’s all I have), I hate, absolutely hate people with uncontrollable vibratos. It spoils the whole concept of a soulful song. He also needs to work on his diction. I have been stressing that since day one. When you attempt to sing a song, the diction has to be good, else, defeating the whole feel of the song.
Anith was up next belting out Rindu. It was an interesting song, very upbeat, fun, young and energetic. Her vocals were good. They are just not strong enough to me. She has indeed a very long way ahead of her. She needs to work on them vocals should she want to stay long in here.
Tomok carried off Rahsia Pohon Cemara quite well I would say, at the beginning and the end. The centre was a little ‘shoutey’ and there was one point when he sang so fast, I couldn’t understand what did he do. It was this sudden one liner that came and went in a snap of a finger. Totally ruined the whole song. It was alright, but like they say, takes one drop of ink to spoil a whole bucket of milk. Here we have it proven.
If last week I was all about the adrenaline rush I get when Aweera takes stage, this week I think I will take it back. Where do I start? I am not sure myself. Let’s see.. 1. From the time he started singing, until it ended, I did not understand a word he said. Period. 2. His screams are not very appealing anymore. Probably starting to appall me. 3. He should try to sing in a more subdued manner. Something more decent and sweet. 4. Girls will definitely go all gaga over him for his looks and nothing else. 5. I want to see him change the way he sings. I want him to prove that amidst the screams, there is a nice voice behind, and people will not be hearing this forever. 6. I strongly feel that he should have sang last week’s song this week : AKU DAH BOSAN!
Pija came on belting Since You’ve Been Gone. The starting of the song was a little bit pitchy, nothing new this week, really, I think I’m used to the pitching issues this week. One thing Pija needs to work on is her low notes. They somehow seemed drowned, and all I could hear was the music. It seemed almost as though she was throating it. She really needs to work on those notes, but comparatively to the others, she did quite okay I would say.
Last but not least, was Fify , rendering Tak Tercapai Akalmu. The starting of the song was simply amazing. It was done very nicely, very smooth and very breathtaking. The following few minutes was good as well. As the song progressed however, she had a bit of difficult moments with her breathing and pitching. Generally, it was an energetic and strong performance. She just needs to work on them pitching and breathing techniques to maintain her throughout the song. To summarize, This weeks show was a disappointment, way below expectations. The bar was set really high last week, but many fell short.
To the Top 11, please work harder. It is not a one day event, and that is the end of it. This is an ongoing competition, until we have a winner. Do your best and do not make the same mistakes over and over and over again. It is very frustrating and agitating to see you guys fall short in the competition. You are here for the ultimate title. Keep your mind to it, and give it all you have. I am very sure that all of you have more than this. This week’s show was bad. This is not what we know all of you as. Come on. Buck up. There is no room for mistakes, no room for relaxing. We know you can do it. Prove it to us. Don’t make us regret our votes.
To you, yes you, the reader, please vote wisely. I know it is going to be tough this week, but if you have the confidence in someone, vote for them, keep them in, we do not want to repeat what happened today. Vote wisely.
Oh and I forgot to mention, Amylea won the immunity this week. Good job to her, though I was rooting for Simon to get the immunity. I don’t mean that Amy does not deserve the immunity, but I just felt that Simon was a better contender this week, that’s all.
This was a really tough decision to make, the week’s ranking. Mart’s Chart is confused on who goes where, but I will try. So, here goes this week’s ranking :
1. Simon 2. Amylea (Immunity) 3. Esther 4. Fify 5. Anith 6. Pija 7. Tomok 8. Han 9. Rizu 10. Nine 11. Aweera
Cherio everyone!
Have a great weekend. See you again next week same time, same place, with hopefully something to boast about ey..

Scenes from OIAM 3 Episode 6 - Arrival Of The Fans Guess who was scoping out the rehearsals and arrived very early at the live show?
Age has no boundaries when it comes to support for Pija.
This must have been the tallest banner ever at the OIAM live shows in 3 seasons.
Friendly but competitive dads - Rizu & Fify's.
Trust us, this Top 80 contestant used to be a blonde.
Is she old enough to vote?
No guesses who he is voting for!!!
Still undecided on who they are supporting at the moment.
The VOTE RIZU campaign has already started.
The lovely ladies from 8TV's PR Dept. - Rinee, Nurul & Nnn.
Some of them are Simon's fans.
Maybe we should join the Han Fan Club - the ladies are sure pretty here. HaaLuHaa to you too!!!
They were a little nervous when approached.
Pija's family are already veterans at campaigning for her.
They were way too cool to carry banners so I don't remember who they were supporting.
Ayu's family & mum (in orange) were around too. Pity her journey had to end so soon for them.
They couldn't wait to get in...
...although they didn't mind the wait too much.
Anith's multi cultured family will certainly be standing by her all the way.
Winning teams normally seem to be in red: Man Utd, Liverpool, Ferrari, ...er, Fify???
...or in the colours of Brazil?
Well, no matter the colour, Tomok's team certainly have their eyes on the ball too.
Amylea's fans certainly seem to match her new found styling.
Talking about style icons...
Sabah Boleh Bah!!! No guesses who they are rooting for.
But who these girls were rooting for is still a mystery.
"Let's get this party started!!!"
Our own writer Anas joins her fellow Sabahans this week.
More pics & full review coming up!!! Watch this space.

Scenes From Episode 6 - Fans In Studio Looks like another capacity crowd at Sri Pentas 2.
If you look carefully you will find Anith's twin brother.
We love the fan support...
...but check out...
...the poser. Cute dude!!!
Good effort by the Tomok clan.
The undecideds!!!
More undecideds!!!
So many people still not sure who to support, I guess it is still early to decide.
He is definitely "Too Sexy For His Shirt".
Toddlers rule OIAM 3 this year.
Esther FC showing their strength.
Hey, its sexy shirt man again, with Khairul on the left who tried out for UPG.
Esther's cousin (in red) and her supporters.
The kids certainly have stormed SP 2 in full force these days.
Behind every notorious judge is a sweet Mrs Moss. Ha! Ha!
BATTLE OF THE BANners!!!
PIJAMANIA in SP2!!! But nobody came in their PIJAmas.
The lovely Juita & her charming manager.
The show is about to start as the cam crew get rolling.
More pics & story coming up. Stay tuned.

Scenes from OIAM 3 Episode 6 - The Eliminations Here come the meanies...er, the judges.
Syafinaz looks pleased to be back and Paul looks as grumpy as usual.
No ammount of touch up...
...is gonna put a smile on that face.
They seem very pleased to start the next episode...
...until the tone of the show changes.
The realisation will soon hit the Top 12 that someone is about to be eliminated. Only Esther is safe.
That task lays in their hands...
...as they prepare to deliver the bad news.
The top 12 finally feel the pressure as they grab on to their fellow contestants for support.
The first to find herself in the bottom 3 is Ayu.
Ayu is left soaking up the pressure on her own for a while.
Must have been really hard on her not knowing what was going on.
She was soon joined by Amylea & Pija in quick succession...
...who must have been surprised to find themselves in the bottom three...
...considering they both already have fan bases.
Seems like Amylea is really feeling it...
...and so is Pija.
Relief for some & dissapointed for one.
But the fellowship is strong...
...even in such a short period of time.
The strong Ayu although dissapointed takes it all in a stride.
Her journey in OIAM may have ended but we know Ayu will continue on with her dreams.
The hosts look to the judges for answers on Ayu's elimination.
Guest judge for Episode 6 is Salamiah Hassan...
...who is mum to Atilia (of Sangkar fame).
Her final showcase.
She may be out but certainly not down.
"Mahluk Tuhan Yang Paling Seksi"
A little cheecky tongue before she departs from OIAM.
We will miss you Ayu.
More pics & story coming up. Stay tuned.

Well my first experienced watching LIVE at Sri Pentas 2 was amazing, chances to meet with many great people all around Malaysia. I'm not going to comment of the contestant as I knew that they did their very best. My ranking would be: 1) Esther (even she a bit off key at the beginning, but she did the arrangement very well) 2) Amylea (impressed because she sings her own song, but for me it just a perfect ordinary performance) 3) Simon (he always attract me even the singing is simple) 4) Fify and the rest are at the same level...
